Cancer in 2nd House: Shells and Savings

Personal Wealth

These natives are typically exceptionally careful with their money. They’re rarely eager to overspend or donate too much. This is mainly because they worry about their future financials even if they’re doing fairly well by most people’s standards.

Being born habitual savers and budgeters, many of them save and budget as soon as they start to earn an income. And they seem to be blessed with an uncanny degree of resourcefulness which often surprises and inspires those around them.

A really good example of clever 2nd house Cancerian frugality and resourcefulness would be a friend of mine who bought a whole second hand kitchen on eBay for a mere $500 (she lives in the U.S). She and her husband managed to fit it themselves and she decorated it in beautiful French cottage style.

She also found lots of smart tips and hacks online which helped her to create the exact style she wanted with a tiny budget. She went shopping at her local dollar stores and found a wealth of beautiful kitchen items that complimented the theme and looked very fancy and expensive.

Being highly imaginative, many of them aren’t at all content with working for someone else. Cancer enjoys “giving birth” to new concepts and hates creativity and imagination being stifled so many of them prefer to run their own ventures.

With strong connections to their family and home, many of these people work in the family business. If not, they might feel compelled to start one themselves and aim to include their kids once they’re adults.

Cancer, being so strongly associated with the home, means that many of them work from home. And if they don’t, maybe they would prefer to if they were given the chance.

Cancer in this house also indicates the type of profession someone might undertake. Caring professions are Cancerian type careers. Home related careers are also related to this placement. Some examples would be renovator, painter and interior designer.

I have this placement and although I could have flourished in an orthodox career and worked outside the home, all kinds of situations kept pulling me back home. To this day I still work from home — albeit in a new one that I’m very happy in.

Safe, secure investments are typically preferred by those with this placement. For instance, placing money in normal savings accounts in old banks with good reputations. They’ll diligently research the institute before saving or investing with them.

To use myself as an example, I absolutely favor secure investments over risky ones. In the UK, we have NS&I which was formed in the 1950s and is backed by the treasury. So every now and again when I have some spare cash to squirrel away, I save with them by buying Premium Bonds. Nearly ever month, I win something. One month last year, I won £500!

Physical Belongings

When buying things for their home or doing anything that improves their home, they’ll gladly spend generously to make it a happier place to live and work. Their home is not only their pride and joy but where they feel most secure, relaxed and surrounded by family.

They might own many things that were handed down to them by older family members and keep mementos of their family about their home like photos and gifts from them. They deeply cherish things like family heirlooms or things owned as children and feel emotionally connected to them. They wouldn’t wish to part with them.

Despite having a strong emotional connection to their belongings, they might not openly and freely talk about them. This is often because they might be too personal to them and they feel too shy to discuss them.

In other instances, they could fear being ridiculed or the things they love being laughed or scoffed at which would hurt their feelings. As we all see varying degrees of value in things and being so sensitive, they might consider it better to just keep shtum about the objects and memories they hold dearest to avoid them being hurt.

I’m very emotionally attachment to a lot of things I own, especially family photo albums and things belonging to my parents and grandparents. I cherish the things that were given to me by those I love and still hold onto childhood toys and games that I just can’t bear to part with — especially my dinosaur collection! I still also have a lot of stuff my exes gave me to help me remember the good times we shared.

Stability and Security

Those with this placement could be financially supported by a family member until later in life or perhaps they were given a substantial inheritance.

They feel a very strong link to family and wish to be respected by them. The family home means a great deal to them and may double as a place of business. Either way, both are connected to their self esteem. If their home is quite large and grand, they’ll feel more secure and accomplished than if it were small and in a sketchy neighborhood.

Their self worth and emotional security is directly linked to how much they make and what sort of job they have. This is a traditional sign so they could have a traditional career or if not, feel like they should or could have done better in life if they had one.

They feel content in life when they have a good amount saved and are able to take really good care of their family.

Self Esteem and Self Worth

With this placement, self esteem is inextricably tied to family reputation and how much they personally earn. Additionally, they value themselves according to the skills associated with homemaking like cooking, decorating, general housekeeping and gardening.

These are the sort of people who can’t stand to have their homes in disarray and might panic a little at the sight of mess. When I have guests over, even if a childhood friend comes over, my place has to look neat and clean — and smell good, too! I just can’t have people think I’m a slob.

They’re very proud of their family, especially their parents and grandparents — particularly of their achievements, personality traits and perhaps also their physical appearance. Members of their family, partners, friends and other loved ones may remain in their memory and close to their hearts forever.

Because much of their self esteem and self worth is based on their family, their home and the environment they grew up in, if they had a difficult upbringing or poor relationships with their family members, their self esteem may require some work as they could feel a bit lost and insecure in life even as adults.

Personal Values and Ethics

They values emotional intelligence in themselves and others. They pride themselves on being emotionally intelligent and being able to understand others.

Positive values include having a caring outlook, especially at work, looking after people or working with family. They may also work with their children or at least wish to leave them with a thriving business. On the downside, they can be a tad moody and defensive at work. If not happy at work, these people tend to become more or less permanently cool and distant.

Cancer is also associated with self employment so these individuals may feel compelled from a young age to strike out on their own. They might build a business and select faithful, sincere and diligent employees who they know they could come to see as family and take care of them as if they were. They might even allow staff to take their pets in to create an atmosphere that feels warm, joyous and family-like. They are loyal to their employers and might look at their colleagues as part of their family.

If the house is negatively aspected, they might instead feel they can exploit their staff by working them too hard and not paying enough so as to make as much as possible from them. Cancer also likes to collect things and can be miserly so they should guard against hoarding.

Skills and Talents

They’re naturally skilled at managing and nurturing the money they make. They save and budget well so that they rarely get into debt, which would cause them a great deal of worry and anxiety.

People might admire how they’re able to effortlessly live on a shoestring budget and save enough to afford large home projects home like kitchen or garden renovation work. They could enjoy doing some or all of the building work themselves at home because renovation projects satisfy their active imaginations and save them money — it’s a double win for them!

Skilled at creating beautifully stylish, warm and welcoming spaces, they might choose to help others with their own renovation and decoration work in a personal or professional capacity. Their intuition is very strong and they just “know” what colors, patterns and textures work well together.

This intuition extends to sensing what may or may not be a good decision financially. This includes being able to tell who would make a good staff members as well as what direction their business should move in.

If they feel appreciated and loved at work, they are helpful and often give off a healing type of energy. They desire to do all they can to become a valuable team member in the work place or elsewhere.

Dominant Element

Understanding the element that dominates your birth chart can provide interesting and helpful information about your character and overall life path.

Fire Dominant

There’s a strong need to create a comfortable and secure home environment. They work tirelessly to support themselves, their family, the home and other loved ones like friends and neighbors.

Their financial and material security is closely tied to their emotional well-being so they have a tendency to be more prudent with their money and material possessions.

Interesting ventures, jobs, and investments are generally well considered but occasionally, owing to the birth chart being dominated by fire, they may leap into situations without adequate forethought and planning.

Earth Dominant

These individuals feel vulnerable and insecure without a solid financial foundation. They tend to worry about the future but are skilled at preparing for their retirement years. They are the least likely to dive into any kind of financial situation. Instead, they are cautious, realistic and will take plenty of time to examine any sort of investment before making a decision.

They work exceptionally hard to keep a good home and support themselves and their loved ones. Even if they aren’t particularly keen on their job, they’ll stick to it if it provides them with a decent pay check at the end of each month. Taking care of their home and family as well as all of their other responsibilities is their top priority.

Their sense of financial security is heightened when they are surrounded by things of value. They might also collect items, in particular, items that are meaningful to them in some way. In some extreme cases, this could lead to hoarding.

Air Dominant

Objective, analytical, and rational, these individuals take all the time they need to think about their next financial move. Whether that means buying a new home, car, business, whatever. With Cancer in the second house, their decision making is extra shrewd.

Their powerful intellect and intuition means they’re capable of achieving whatever they set their sights on, however, they must guard against overthinking and idealism. No investment, job or business is perfect and every choice they make will carry some degree of risk.

Water Dominant

Their excellent intuition guides and to some extent, protects, them. This is especially true when it comes to financial matters. They aren’t easily duped into get-rich-quick schemes and will take their time to “feel” out an investment, new job or other financial situation.

These individuals would feel terrible if they weren’t equipped to look after their loved ones. They make sure to be extra careful with their finances and work earnestly to bring in an income that’s sufficient for their needs and the needs of those in their household.

Being sensitive, they know that they must be able to take care of themselves because if they don’t have a safe, quiet and secure place to live, it could very negatively impact their mental and physical well-being.

My Personal Experience With This Placement

I personally enjoy having a strong connection to my personal belongings. I also consider it rather sweet and charming to observe others cherish and proudly discuss the things they hold dear, especially their family heirlooms. I throughly admire those who are proud of their roots and heritage and hold beloved memories of the past.

With regard to self-worth being tied to the family home and their own income as adults, I believe this is fairly common and understandable. In today’s world, especially in the West, one’s self-worth is frequently connected to career and income no matter what lies within this house. Although I agree that this tendency is amplified when the second house falls in certain signs, including Cancer.

From what I’ve seen and from my own personal perspective as someone with this placement, intuition is very strong, especially if Gemini or Cancer is in the first house. I believe that all humans are psychic to various degrees but these two Rising signs increase that ability. And when good intuition is used for making financial choices, the results stand a greater chance of being fruitful.
