Scorpio in 4th House: Depth, Secrets and Emotional Roots

Home and Domestic Life

Their domestic affairs are typically “hush hush”. Whatever goes in within the four walls of their home is kept between them and immediate family or whoever else they live with, no matter how mundane it may be. They wouldn’t appreciate the details of their private life being revealed, especially to strangers.

Even showing friends a complete tour of their home might feel a bit too intrusive. Contrastingly, they wouldn’t mind knowing about the lives of others. Many of these people enjoy discovering juicy tidbits of information about the domestic lives of their friends, colleagues and neighbours.

These natives love to have intense, emotionally charged experiences at home but they also enjoy and require peace and quiet in it in order to feel safe and secure. They might find themselves torn between city life and a quiet, isolated home in the countryside. Their home is their sanctuary so it’s important they choose it well or have a plan in place to eventually move to a more suitable place.

At home, they feel like their emotions are understood and appreciated by their loved ones. It’s the one place they aren’t afraid to be completely authentic and show their true feelings, which may be very deep and complex. Outside of the home, they might appear a very different person, or at least less complex.

Control could be an issue within the home. Perhaps they feel as if they’re controlled or they could be a bit controlling themselves. For example, they could run their home like they would an organization and require that things run as they wish. Some of their family might be pleased they run the household so well but others might feel overwhelmed by their tight grip.

Some of these people might run businesses from their homes. Considering Scorpio’s association with taxes, death and transformation, the types of businesses they run could include accountancy, taxation, undertaking, taxidermy or a healing business like osteopathy or Reiki healing.

Property and Land

They may own a home or land that is purported to be a spiritual location, has a long and interesting history, or is said to be haunted. They could even seek to buy a home close by or right next to a cemetery. Whatever home or land they buy, it must “feel” right to them. If it doesn’t, they won’t even consider it.

They may be possessive over their home and land and dislike anyone misusing it or encroaching upon it. That includes difficult neighbors building at the boundary or affecting their property in any way. Even loud music being playing often can be intrusive and ruin the enjoyment of their home.

But that isn’t to say that they’re reclusive. Quite the contrary, they love having people over for interesting discussions and meeting friends of friends and so on!

Mother or Primary Caregiver

Their mother, or primary caregiver, was in an in-charge person who regularly policed the household to make sure everything was running smoothly. She could have been characterized as an “iron fist in a velvet glove” as she skilfully blended a gentle exterior with a firm and powerful approach to maintaining order within the household and family.

The bond between mother and child was strong, emotionally deep and at times, intense. She had a strong influence over what her children did and felt it was her duty to guide them well. She was a passionate and animated person who was deeply involved in the well-being of the family. She was also fiercely protective of her young, similarly to mothers of a Leonine or Cancerian nature.

She may have had a mysterious or alluring aura about her. Perhaps she was a very private person and kept a lot of secrets—of her own and of others. She likely kept her emotions hidden whatever her normal demeanour. This was more for self-protection because she was quite sensitive and wary of others.

Some of these mothers, or primary caregivers, had some kind of connection to the paranormal. They could have been interested in such subjects like astrology, divination and mediumship. Psychology may also have been a subject of interest.

Family and Heritage

These individuals take great pride in their family and heritage. No matter how successful, interesting, educated or wealthy they are or aren’t, they have a special place in their heart. Their strong bonds are marked by a deep sense of loyalty and trust. Some of their relatives could serve as a sanctuary for emotional support and understanding; their safe space away from our challenging planet!

They might even feel connected to the deceased members of their family in some special way. Perhaps they believe they were a beloved family member in a previous incarnation or that a deceased family member is now their spirit guide. Ethereal connections such as these contribute to a sense of continuity, fostering a belief in the enduring nature of family ties beyond the physical world.

Owing to Scorpio indicating huge energy reserves and a need for power and domination, many of these people have some exceedingly successful people in their family. Of course, they may work in any field but it seems that many with this placement have family working in medicine, science, finance and business.

Perhaps certain members of their family are involved with the mystical, esoteric or occult. Their family tree might boast a collection of fascinating “black sheep” involved with a myriad of interesting and esoteric pursuits and professions.

A close friend of mine with this placement has a family tree brimming with fortune tellers, astrologers and mediums. Her young cousins enjoy carrying our paranormal investigations in atmospheric haunted locations. Their work is absolutely fascinating.

Emotional Foundations

As well as representing home and family life, this house represents the core of one’s emotional being. It serves as the foundational roots from which people draw a sense of security and belonging. Those with Scorpio here have emotional foundations that are very deep, intense and transformative somehow.

These sensitive individuals seek comfort and healing through esoteric practices like meditation or various spiritual healing modalities. Additionally, consulting a psychic or spiritual healer is another avenue they may explore to find solace and guidance as means of self-care.

I have also personally observed many of these people finding guidance and comfort through prayer and speaking to the clergy in traditional places of worship such as churches, synagogues, temples and so on. The friend I mentioned earlier is a member of a New Age church which also has its own medium to offer its members guidance. She also enjoys studying Buddhism and passionately abides by a lot of its principles. Nevertheless, when in need of advice and comfort, her first port of call us invariably her mom or aunt.

Nurturing and Caregiving Tendencies

In caregiving roles, they can bring an interesting transformative energy. Whether by just listening to their loved one’s thoughts or actively addressing their needs and wants, their approach is geared towards making things better for them. Sometimes, this also means encouraging their personal growth and sense of self worth, especially if they think they really need it.

They care deeply about those they love and are strongly bonded to. It comes naturally to them and they are fully aware of how vital caring for each other is. After all, if we didn’t take care of each other, this world would be even more difficult that it already is.

The Past

Their many memories are cherished and often discussed with those close to them. They find it joyful to share anecdotes, reliving special moments and creating a sense of nostalgia. Present relationships can also be strengthened by sharing fond memories and becoming emotional while doing so. An ex of mine did this and I found it really endearing. It really warmed my heart to hear him talking so highly about his lovely late Sicilian great grandma.

One of the most interesting things about Scorpio is that it’s the only sign to comprise three signs; the Scorpion, the Eagle, and the most enlightened—the Phoenix. Reflecting on their past, especially if it was turbulent, they may either harbour resent, or based on their level of enlightenment, express gratitude for the valuable learning opportunities that emerged from those challenging experiences. Though, I’d like to mention that we cannot help how we feel. There should be absolutely no judgement associated with the feelings we experience. We’re all on our own individual spiritual journeys.

Endings and Closure

Endings here could be painful and possibly lengthy too. They aren’t necessarily simple things to be carried out quickly without much forethought. Calling an end to any kind of relationship or situation, involves a lot of emotional prep. With regard to moving on from the past, especially if it was painful, they may find it challenging. It may take a while and they must be kind and patient with themselves. Spiritual healing, psychotherapy or other healing modalities may help them to find closure and move on.

In this house, endings take on an additional significance, making the tradition into retirement years. These years may be their most longed for because they’re often the years we have the most control over. No longer are we told what to do by a parent, older sibling, boss, or spouse!

During retirement, we can do whatever we want, health permitting. This includes getting counselling and healing from any past traumas. However, additionally, and just as importantly, many of these people choose to indulge in plenty of new and fun experiences. Experimenting with new recipes, travelling, enrolling in classes —retirement years offer a canvas for limitless possibilities, allowing people to savour the richness of life on their own terms. And many of these people have the energy required to do all of the above and more as seniors.
