Black Moon Lilith in 2nd House: Shadowed Abundance

Lilith in the 2nd house signifies challenges surrounding 2nd house themes like personal values, self-worth, and material things.

Those with this placement tend to strive for financial independence from a young age. However, they may struggle to achieve their material desires because of the negative beliefs that were instilled in them when they were growing up and reinforced during their adult years.

In this article, I explore how the themes of the second house, associated with the sign of Taurus and the planet Venus, are impacted by Lilith — and what you can do about it.

About Lilith in Astrology

Of all the three Liliths, the Black Moon Lilith is the most widely recognized and talked about. It’s a mathematical point rather than a celestial body such as an asteroid, although one of the other Liliths is an asteroid. It’s also the point I get asked about the most by far! Yes, even more than the lunar nodes.

Each astrologer has their own opinion on how useful it is to examine the various different Liliths. Personally, I feel that Black Moon Lilith is particularly useful to look at because it depicts the hidden nature of an individual and guides us to look at what can be improved. The house it’s in indicates the areas in life that the individual may find the most challenging. By overcoming them, they may flourish further.

Personal Values

Your personal values mean a lot to you, and your standards for yourself and others are pretty high. You strive to uphold yourself well and are attuned to the thoughts and feelings of others in order to create peaceful atmospheres wherever you are. You pride yourself on having integrity, and it’s also something you like to see others display. In an ideal world, you’d surround yourself with people who are honest, authentic, kind, and peaceful. Only those closest to you would know what your personal values are because you keep them hidden as you tend to worry about being judged, especially if your values are a bit traditional.

As children, you could have been discouraged from really understanding who you are and what you want in life by some sort of authority figure like a parent or teacher. You may have also experienced the loss of family members and other important figures that could have helped you develop a strong sense of self. Consequently, you may experienced bouts of low self-esteem, and confusion in terms of what you really wanted from life. This could have lead to a lack of drive in achieving your goals because you don’t really know what they are to begin with.

Values in Relationships

You need to feel useful, needed, valued, and appreciated within your romantic relationships. I mean, most people do, of course, but you do especially. While some people with Lilith in the 2nd may appreciate a partner who is free-spirited and  independent, they’ll still need to feel like an integral part of their duo in order to stay in the relationship.

You may feel as if you need to become successful before you find a partner in order to attract and hold onto someone who is also successful and preferably, fit and good-looking in addition. You may not feel comfortable looking for a partner if you feel as if you don’t have enough to offer a partner, even if in reality, you’re absolutely worthy of a mutually fulfilling relationship as you are.

In some cases, you may not be able to pinpoint exactly what your values within the context of romantic relationships are. This is especially applicable to those whose journeys of self-discovery were somehow hindered when they were growing up.

If you experienced loss at a young age, you may at times be a bit controlling and possessive in your relationships. Or you  might be a bit needy and find yourself worrying that your partner will leave you and consequently do virtually anything to keep them.

If you don’t feel secure, you may attract a partner who frequently points out what they don’t like about or you or makes fun of you for not being more ambitious, self-confident, fit, or whatever. In the event they are successful, their partner could pick on them if they feel threatened by their success.

Possessions and Personal Resources

Having lots of tangible things around you makes you feel secure. These things could range from designer goods (some of which could be excellent investment pieces), to everyday items. Having lots of stuff is fine but if the accumulation of it goes unchecked, it may morph into hoarding. So, this is something that some of those with this placement should keep an eye on in my opinion. If you lost some valuable possessions or money in your youth, you may be more of a maximalist to make up for it. Just watch out for gathering too many things, or starting too many collections.

Income and Financial Security

You might not feel truly secure in life until your income is at a certain level and/or you own your ideal home. Some people with this placement strive to buy in a prestigious area but of course, not everyone can afford this. You desire to have comfort and abundance in your adult years, especially if you didn’t have that as a child, and you might not stop until this is achieved.

Some people with this placement deeply desire to be admired and respected in their job or profession. It’s the acquisition of both material wealth and a positive professional reputation that helps them to create internal stability and security.

Others with this placement could struggle with their finances and material security. Their financial situation may often feel unstable or it may feel impossible for them to a better job or leave their career behind for a more pleasurable one.

Money may also come and go via and chances to save or invest could seem to pass them by. This could be due to spending too much money or allowing their partner, or someone else who is close to them, to spend too much of their money. Or it could be because there are other necessary expenses which drain their coffers.

While this is the case for some of those with Lilith in the 2nd, it certainly won’t be for all. Additionally, it’s perfectly possible for every one of us to change our circumstances. The old adage “where there’s a will, there’s a way” springs to mind here. We just need to find ways to improve our lives and then take action accordingly. Of course, some situations are more channeling than others, but I think that for most people, especially in the Western world, change is possible.

Spending Habits

You may be inclined to spend a little too much, on yourself and others. This may be for numerous reasons. One reason could be to be generous to those they love to make them feel happy and cared for. Another could be to impress people and cultivate an image of wealth.

We’re all guilty of spending too much at times, especially during the holidays, no mater what our charts look like. However, it goes without saying that poor spending habits can  lead to the creation of a poor credit score, which can hang around for many years. If financial struggles persist, people  can grow to feel frustrated, stressed, and as if they’ve failed to provide for themselves and their loved ones.

Self-Sufficiency

There’s a lack of direction associated with this placement. As I said earlier, your self-discovery may have been hindered early on in life. If this was the case for you, you may not have had a chance to find out what you’d really like to achieve as an adult.

On the other hand, you may be super goal oriented, and a total workaholic because you feel material wealth is so incredibly important to feel safe in this world. Either way, there may be some kind of imbalance regarding self-sufficiency that needs to be addressed.

Neither of these polarities are necessarily bad. Both stem from feeling unsafe in this world. And that’s perfectly understandable considering the drastic increase in crime, the cost of living crisis, and so on. Feeling safer can be achieved through various forms of conventional and mystical healing. Ultimately, we are all Souls having a very temporary human experience. We are always safe, no matter what.

Talents and Skills

Although you’re very talented and skilled, you could feel slightly ashamed of showcasing your abilities. Perhaps you were raised to believe that you should lead a modest life and any talent or skill that’s too “showy” should be resisted.

Or perhaps others could have made them feel ashamed of being talented. For example, in school, if they were great at singing, they may have been made fun of for appearing emotionally sensitive and vulnerable. So they decided not to pursue it.

If you just allow yourself to show your various talents and skills, rather than keeping them to yourself, perhaps you’ll find that new opportunities open up for you! Or you may just enjoy yourself more by feeling free to pursue whatever you want. Ultimately, we all have some sort of discernible talent or skill. As naturally creative beings who were born to create, we should feel completely free to create and express ourselves however we see fit, no matter our astrological profile.

By clearing away any negative beliefs surrounding their talents and skills, you could feel much lighter about pursuing and enjoying them. But suppressed abilities aren’t the only ones that could benefit by being allowed to flourish — the clearing could also reveal new ones you never knew you had!

Changing the Story

It’s never too late to discover who you are and what you want from life. There are plenty of stories of seniors finally discovering themselves, what their passions are, and exploring them! Some of them even go on to create successful businesses with their newfound skills and enthusiasm. Colonel Harland Sanders founded KFC when he was 62. And he’d experienced numerous setbacks when he started.

One’s inner narrative just needs to change in order for change to come about, and for many people, that’s doable with enough determination. The inner work required includes self-reflection and self-love, and some people might find therapy helpful. Some complimentary methods that may also benefit them in this process include meditation and energy healing. I’ve also listed some positive affirmations below that might help if repeated often enough with conviction.
