Why Am I Drawn to the Moon?

The Moon; a gleaming, ethereal sphere in the night sky… And my absolute favorite celestial body. It wasn’t until I was a teenager in Cyprus that I really noticed and absorbed its beauty. I was on vacation and I had the time to stop and admire it one especially clear, warm night. Its intense, otherworldly beauty took me aback.

It’s an eternal muse that has deeply moved and inspired creative types like writers, painters and visionaries alike since time immemorial. It has a romantic, mysterious, and magnetic quality for many people across our planet. It awakens something inside, gently pushing us towards contemplation and reflection.

In astrology, it represents:

  • the subconscious mind
  • feminine energy
  • emotions
  • healing
  • spirituality
  • dreams
  • and to some degree, transformation

Like the fluidity of life, the Moon is constantly changing, going through various different phases; waxing, waning, crescent, new and full…

Humanity has been fascinated by this still heavenly body since time immemorial. Men and women alike have traveled and explored its dusty, cratered terrain. Amongst different countries, there was a race to be the first one to make it there. Ultimately, America won and landed on the moon on July 20th, 1969. Astronaut Neil Armstrong was the first to place a space boot on its surface and uttered the famous phrase, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

The Moon seems to be an ever-present symbol in different religions, cultures, and spiritual folklore. Many use it as guidance in their life, as well as learning and linking it with their intuition. Some believe you can harness its energy and perform rituals to accomplish this. Remember, moonlight still shines in the blackest of nights… Like a bright light to show you the way forward. This can be applied both literally and metaphorically to a person’s life. Understanding this cosmic body better might give us answers for our pathway (spiritually and otherwise).

Spiritual Meaning

For many of us, there is a deep spiritual draw to it.

This divine pull seems to penetrate our spirit within. This beautiful orb represents many things including the never-ending life cycle and how all humans are connected. Looking at it fills us with a type of energy that encourages us to reflect and explore internally. On some level, it exposes who we are, allowing us to tap into our most primal instincts and our spiritual side.

It also goes through phases like we do with our feelings and life experiences.

This includes birth, death and rebirth. Change is a part of this and the ebb and flow let us find happiness and equilibrium from the inside. With the deep allure of it, we can discover our truth. A Full Moon can encourage us to find joy as we complete our goals. Like Elsa in the movie Frozen, we should “Let It Go.” This means to get rid of the things that no longer serve us. When it shrinks in size, it’s an opportunity to do some deep thinking and muse about the future.

The spiritual link people have with the moon is personal and unique to the individual. It represents many different things to numerous beings. No matter where people are located on Earth, it is very often viewed as mystical and divine.

It is also strongly related to:

  • intuition
  • nurturing
  • and female energy

Many cultures, civilizations, and spiritual groups connect with nature through the moon and bask in its energy for rituals, spells, and self-affirmation. Others think acknowledgment and fame can be drawn, mixing with personal evolution and growth.

Its radiance brings about many emotions including feeling relaxed and at peace. We are intrigued and awed by its beauty and what it represents. If you find yourself staring at it, it might be you want to have a stronger link to your own emotions and intuition. Do you talk to it? Many pray or meditate on it. They ask for guidance and attempt to manifest their wants and needs from the spiritual energy they feel.

The Importance of the Moon Within Traditions and Cultures

It doesn’t matter where in the world you live. Its importance within different traditions and cultures surpasses any geographical hurdles or societal obstacles. Many civilizations believe the moon represents intuition, female energy, and the circle of life. Globally, it’s a very important symbol in many practices. We utilize its energy and cycles for rituals, pray to deities, and study its cycles and positioning. Many believe the moon has significant powers. Others think it’s just phooey.

If you are into astrology or the New Age movement like I am, you will probably hold its symbolism in high regard.

You might regularly utilize the energy you feel from it for:

  • spells
  • healing
  • and manifesting your desires

Many practices perform ceremonies during different lunar phases as well. There are eight phases it goes through. It’s split into four primary cycles and four secondary ones. The first batch includes the new, first quarter, full, and last quarter. The second ones are waxing crescent, waxing gibbous, waning crescent, and waning gibbous. The phases repeat once monthly.

The Full Moon’s Energy

A Full Moon can be very exciting. It comes with increased emotions and magnified energy. Many people have stated that they become inspired and they can feel their creative juices flowing (very much including me), hence the many paintings, writings and songs about this utterly enchanting natural satellite. Think of the artist Rembrandt, the playwright Shakespeare, and musicians such as Pink Floyd (The Dark Side of the Moon).

Intuition intensifies immensely. Some people become uneasy or restless. That’s why people tend to ask if it’s in its full phase when unpredictable, strange, and surprising things happen during this phase… Many movies depict this, especially a werewolf-themed one. Think of Wolf, Monster Squad, The Wolfman, An American Werewolf in London and so many more. Emotions run high during this time. The cosmic energy of our universe feels heightened. This lets people grasp the its power for manifesting their wishes, and for individual evolution.

Evolution and Lunar Eclipses

We can’t talk about personal transformation and personal evolution without looking at the significance of lunar eclipses. A lunar eclipse is when it shifts into the planet’s shadow, darkening it. They only happen about once or twice a year. It creates an immense impact on our minds, feelings, and spiritual awakening.

Memories can often emerge that demand to be recognized and freed. It gives us the time to reflect, heal, and shake off old patterns that stop us from growing personally. Accept this favourable moment to reinforce the spiritual bond you feel with the moon. Perception and instincts increase, and the pathway to individual progression begins.

Intuition and Emotions

Comprehending the link between the moon and our feelings and intuitive nature can help with our life course. It will lead to a personal metamorphosis. Many people experience intense feelings during a Full Moon. I seem to be especially prone to this, perhaps because I was born during this intense phase. It can bring fervor, and uneasiness in some, as well as creative inspiration. During the new phase, looking inward and reflecting upon things can bring you emotional peace.

This link can maybe be explained by the its gravitational force. This not only affects the planet’s tides but also our internal phases. By acknowledging and understanding its energy, we can intensify our instincts or gut feelings, garnering answers to our emotions. When we understand more about it, it can lead us to an avenue in our life filled with confidence, intelligence, and tranquility.

Dreaming and Sleep Cycles

Those who are tuned into the moon tend to believe that it affects our dreams and how we sleep. Researchers and scientists have studied the moon and how it affects our sleep time. In this case, its phases control how we sleep and dream. One of the studies showed that during a Full Moon, people didn’t fall asleep as fast. They also slept less, by upwards of twenty minutes, and REM sleep took longer to achieve. This phase can also potentially intensify dreams. During this time, some people have said they experience nightmares, don’t have deep sleep, or have insomnia. It doesn’t affect everyone this way, but it’s a possibility for some. Overall, the quality of sleep was less!

The brilliance of it also influences our subconscious mind. Strong feelings and ideas tend to appear in our dreams. Many have visions about things to come in real life (or premonitions). At night, try opening the bedroom window while resting and let its magical bright light wash over you. You can utilize it for quiet self-reflection. What happens when you dream about the moon itself? You may need to acknowledge something in your life that you haven’t already or feel as if you can’t.

Although heavily researched, many scientists argue the validity of sleep studies. They either believe in the influence of it on our sleep patterns or they don’t. Either way, people are still fascinated by the subject. Some scientists still pursue answers about how it affects both psychological and physical aspects of the human body. Do you believe it affects your sleep and dreams? There are claims that the moonlight purges anger and any lack of balance within the body. Some even say that it can help with headaches, hypertension, and other physical problems.

The Moon and Your Overall Connection

So, how does one connect with this glorious body? Taking a walk in the moonlight is an option. This bond can be improved by understanding what its phases symbolize. How do its various different cycles match up to your birth date? What about other significant dates? Researching this information personally allows you to understand how the phases align with your journey. Some do moon baths or have moon altars to feel more connected. Others will write in a diary or meditate under its gentle, watchful glow. They will often create goals that will line up their energy to its phases. This will impact your spiritual path in an influential way.

It plays a crucial part (for many of us) every single day of our lives. It links us to the universe, especially when we align ourselves with its cycles. Like each of life’s phases, every new cycle tells us that we can start over. As it grows, we can also evolve by setting new goals for ourselves and starting new projects. By understanding its cycles and energy it can aid us in moving onward and finding ourselves. Many say its energy also affects the body’s vibrations. This helps us comprehend our energy within and places us on an adventure of evolution. We can become who we are truly meant to be.

Don’t be afraid if you feel an unshakeable draw to this divine orb. Accept its cosmic gifts wholeheartedly! Open yourself up to it and embrace it. Take time to carefully and methodically think about things as well. Contemplate about its cycles as well as life. How do they relate to one another for you? Let it aid in your self-reflection.

If you’re looking for a way to connect even further to it, add rituals or practices to your time moon gazing. Nurture a cognizant link. Be aware and unburdened, opening to the unlimited possibilities it can offer. Tap into your intuition. It’s an opportunity to uncover buried memories or revelations too. Breathe deeply and allow yourself to become silent and still. Give into the deep feeling of solidarity with the universe. You are guaranteed to feel a sense of renewal and balance within.

My Final Thoughts

Open those curtains and let the moonlight shine in. Although, if you want to get technical, the light happens because it reflects the sun. As discussed, there are numerous explanations for feeling drawn or connected to it. A huge part pertains to spirituality. Additionally, people look for a link emotionally. They want to be encouraged and inspired. It often makes them think of their personal life cycle, transformation, and evolution. People need to grow and not be stagnant. Why not use whatever tools are available to you? It won’t cost you anything and it’s completely free to enjoy!

The moon is mysterious, inspiring a vibrant curiosity in some, while other people receive peace, acceptance, and comfort. This opens the mind up and you can listen to your innermost thoughts better. With practice and repetition, you will know when something in your life’s experiences rings true or false. This cosmic connection is natural for many, and it can be palpable, too.

Its wonderment ensnares us with its mysticism, beauty, and tranquil demeanor. While some may dismiss any deep meaning associated with it, others find the symbolism extremely important and bond strongly to its energy. This awe that is felt can be life-altering for some. It’s like a mirror reflecting our influences, feelings, and moods. Those who connect to the moon on a deep level and embrace the allure can begin on a path of total understanding of themselves.

What it represents aids us in uncovering the buried parts of our mind. It nudges us to self-explore and contemplate experiences and decisions on a deeper level. By performing rituals, musing, and meditating, we can harness its energy. This will ultimately make your connection to it stronger. Major growth will occur if you are open to it. These changes, with the moon’s help, can ultimately make for a better life.
