I’m a Libra but I Feel More Like a Scorpio

A late friend of mine was a Libra but she was frequently mistaken for a Scorpio by those who knew a thing or two about astrology. She embodied so many Scorpionic traits that it was difficult for people to believe she wasn’t one. A more in-depth study of her birth chart revealed that she had both Mercury and Venus in Scorpio, as well as some planets in the 8th house, which is associated with the sign.

If you’re a Libra who resonates more with the intensity, mystery and magnetism of Scorpio, then you’re in the right place. Not everyone feels like they embody the traits associated with the zodiac sign they were born under. In fact, it’s fairly common. As an astrologer, it isn’t remotely surprising considering just how jam packed with different zodiacal energies each birth chart is! Below you’ll find a list of the most common explanations as to why you feel deliciously Scorpionic despite being Lady Justice.

Natal Mercury

This seems to be the most common explanation for feeling like another sign. Mercury’s orbit around the Sun is tight so it’s never located too far from it. It’s only ever in the same constellation as the Sun, the one before, or the one after. It’s always trailing along closely. And because of its closeness, it’s regarded as a very important part of the birth chart.

Seeing as Mercury governs intellect, it’s no wonder it has the power to influence the way we think and act. To illustrate how influential it is in the chart, I’ll again use my late Libran friend as an example. Mercury was in Scorpio in her chart, as I mentioned earlier, but it was also heavily aspected meaning it formed lots of significant angles with other planets thus spreading its influence.

Although the only planets to be in Scorpio were Mercury and Venus, her nature was still very Scorpionic because of their powerful influence. This fascinated me, especially because she wasn’t remotely interested in astrology and never once looked at her chart. So, her behaviour wasn’t an act. She just naturally behaved like the most enigmatic, secretive and mysterious eighth sign of the zodiac. In my opinion, this goes to show how powerful one placement can be, especially if it’s emphasized by being heavily aspected.

The Ascendant

The ascendant or rising sign (first house) in astrology is a major player in the house system. Some astrology enthusiasts are unaware of the houses and their importance but they are aware of the rising sign, which is the sign on the cusp of the first house.

It’s an incredibly important part of the birth chart as are any planets contained within it. It governs physical appearance, the way we view ourselves, and how others view us — especially initially. It also influences your overall personality. Therefore, if you have Pluto or Mars (the planets which rule Scorpio), in the first house, or Scorpio rising, it would be no wonder why you resonate with the sign!

The Natal Moon

Our feelings are governed by the Moon in astrology. So it’s very important to take a close look at its position in your birth chart. Bearing in mind that its sign is just as important as the Sun sign and the Ascendant, if it’s in the sign of Scorpio, or the 8th house, which its linked to it, then your emotional nature would be very deep and very intense and complex.

In fact, you might be more Scorpionic in nature than those with a Scorpio Sun! Ancient astrologers considered the Moon the most important part of the chart. Because of its appearance at night, they deduced that it was the side of us that is less often seen. They thought of it is the true, inner self.

The Exact Birth Time Matters

Since Scorpio follows on from Libra if your time of birth was somehow documented just one minute early, that would give you an incorrect Sun sign. I can’t think how that could happen off the top of my head but you just never know. Birth is normally a stressful event. Consequently, someone in the delivery room may have jotted the exact time of birth down incorrectly.

Similarities Between the Two Signs

Although Libra and Scorpio are very different signs, they have some things in common. Libra is an air sign and therefore considered especially intelligent. Scorpio is also seen as naturally particularly clever and shrewd. The power of perception they both possess is phenomenal. They’re also fabulous conversationalists and can discuss a wide range of subjects with ease.

Material wealth is also of great important to both signs. They strive to live abundant lifestyles. Being able to buy the things they want invariably enhances their lives. So both signs tend to be determined and successful. They also value integrity in themselves and others. They’re frank, honest and upfront, especially when it comes to the things they feel strongly about. Topics like equality mean a lot to them, and they’ll fight for what they believe is right and fair (although it should be noted that what Scorpio thinks is fair is very personal and others may not agree with them).

The Placement of the Personal Planets

The Sun, Moon, and Mercury make up only three of the five personal planets. The remaining two are Venus and Mars. We already know what your Sun sign is, and we’ve discussed the Moon and Mercury, and but Venus and Mars are also major players in astrology.

Venus governs how we love ourselves and others, how we dress, the sort of things and people we find attractive and Mars governs how we take action, our instinctual nature, gut reaction, and drive (mental, physical and sexual drive). If one or more personal planets are in the sign of Scorpio, then you’ll undoubtedly feel some of its energy.

Personal Planets in the 8th House

Some of your personal planets could be located in the 8th house, which is associated with the sign of Scorpio. If you have personal planets (meaning more personal and therefore more relevant to the individual), in the 8th house, they will undoubtedly influence your astrological profile too.

The Third House of Intellect and Communication

Those with Virgo or Libra in the first house may find Scorpio, or one of its ruling planets — Pluto or Mars — in the 3rd house. The 3rd governs all of the same themes as Mercury including thought processes, intellect, and communication style. That would explain why you might consider your nature rather Scorpionic.

Being Influenced by Other Signs

You may have spent a lot of time around Scorpionic people. Even if they weren’t born under the Sun sign, they may have other placements in their charts which influence them to behave, and think in, a Scorpionic manner. You may have found over time that you became influenced by their energy, adopting some of their behavior consciously or unconsciously.

Reincarnation

Many people believe in the concept of reincarnation, and that includes myself. It’s a widespread belief in Eastern culture and among those who are a part of the New Age movement. If you feel more like another sign and your birth chart doesn’t offer any obvious explanation as to why, then perhaps in numerous past lives, Scorpio was a strong energy in your chart. Some people also believe that everything is happening now as we only ever have the present moment. If so, our past lives may also be, in fact, our parallel lives. If this is true, our “past” lives may be more impactful that we think.

Other Influencing Factors

How we’re raised heavily impacts us. The fourth astrological house offers information on our early years including what your relationship with your mother, or primary caregiver, was like. The tenth house offers information on what your relationship with your father was like. Of course, you don’t need to look at the houses to recall what your early years were like but it can help you to expand your awareness of that period of your life and identify whether there were any heavily Scorpionic influences around you back then.
