I’m a Gemini — But I’m Quiet

Not all Geminis are talkative and outgoing. Some are quiet and introverted, and that’s perfectly normal. Off the top of my head, I can think of at least six Geminis I know personally who are very introverted and rarely share a lot about themselves.

This sign is ruled by Mercury, which by all accounts, is very mental (cerebral) planet. So, a lot of people born under this sign are inclined to spend more time thinking, contemplating and analyzing than talking.

In fact, they can be quite shy and retiring. Mercury has nervous energy and air is the most delicate zodiacal element. Combine those two factors and you end up with someone who is quite cautious and keeps themselves to themselves. Some Geminis are also wary of others affecting their energy as they can be very sensitive. A lot of psychics and mediums are born under this sign.

More Thought, Less Talk

Although Geminis are said to be very talkative not all of them are chatty, boisterous, and extroverted. Certainly, many of the ones I know are but there are few I’ve known who are fairly quiet when they aren’t mid-conversation.

Geminis are especially bright, reflective, and thoughtful. They can take a lot of time to think things through, and while they’re thinking, they might not talk very much, or at all. They can also be highly observant, constantly noticing things that others miss. This constant assessment of other people and their means they spend a lot of time lost in thought rather than chatting.

Some of these natives are most definitely over-thinkers and therefore cautious about what they say or do, which can make them appear hesitant. Other natives much prefer to listen in on conversations rather than engage in them. I lived with a Gemini at my halls of residence who kept herself to herself. She was sweet, clever and funny but unless she felt very strongly about something, she’d rarely speak up. She liked to listen to the conversations of our flat mates and she normally appeared shy and introspective. So, yes, introverted Geminis absolutely do exist!

Natal Mercury Is in the Sign of Taurus

As a Gemini (Sun sign), you can only have Mercury in the same sign, the sign which precedes it, (Taurus), or the sign which comes before it (Cancer). This is because of Mercury’s close orbit around the Sun. In the birth chart, Mercury is like a fine mesh sieve through which all thoughts pass through and are conditioned by. When this planet is in Taurus in the birth chart, your thoughts become influenced by its energy.

Taurus is a feminine sign, meaning that it’s introverted. It’s a cautious, deliberate, and gentle sign. It’s therefore much more likely that you’re more patient, less restless and less nervous than Geminis with Mercury in Gemini. You also have the ability to take plenty of time to think things through. You rarely talk for the sake of talking and you probably don’t have the same need for perpetual mental stimulation. Getting things off your chest looks more like writing in a journal, writing a song, or baking something delicious instead of spending lots of time talking to, or gossiping with, family and friends.

You’re more introverted and introspective, and prefer to go within, calm your mind, and quietly evaluate things before moving forward. Rash decisions are rarely made. In fact, you might take quite a while to think something through and make a decision. Your profession may be associated more with the sign of Taurus as it could require more patience and attention to detail such as dentistry, coding, or teaching. You aren’t adverse to focusing on something for long periods and you don’t get bored easily. You enjoy reading for hours on end and probably make an excellent, committed student who always does their homework!

No matter what sign natal Mercury is in, it’ll additionally be influenced by the astrological house it’s in. If it’s in a house which is associated with feminine sign, i.e. a water sign or an earth sign, it may mean the native is more introspective or/and less talkative.

Natal Mercury Is in the Sign of Cancer

Cancer is a cardinal, feminine sign. It’s also a water sign, and one of the two shyest of the water signs (the other is Pisces). As I mentioned above, natal Mercury acts like a filter and conditioner for all of your thoughts and reasoning. If you have Mercury in this zodiac sign, you’re probably highly sensitive, imaginative, creative, introspective, and perhaps even quite shy. You may feel like you need to guard your sensitive energy from others, especially those who don’t appear to be especially considerate.

You tend to think more than you speak, and you prefer to avoid confrontation if possible. You take your time to think things through with everyone’s best interests being taken into consideration. You’re able to concentrate for long periods and don’t tend to be as restless as Geminis with Mercury in Gemini but you may be just as nervous. You don’t like to talk and chat too much as you consider it too draining or time consuming although you are happy to chat a lot with those whom you are very close to and trust implicitly such as your family members and closest friends.

You tend to be very good at meditating. Perhaps you used to meditate as a child but you didn’t know that’s what it was called. The clearing of excess mental noise and clarity of thought that the practice brings you feels delightful to you. It’s also likely that you enjoy being in still and quiet spaces like churches, lakesides, and forests which, aside from being incredibly beautiful and peaceful, allow your imagination to run wild and conjure up all sorts of wonderful things!

A Feminine Sign or Planet in The Third House

The feminine signs are the water signs; Cancer, Pisces, and Scorpio, and the earth signs; Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. The feminine gender in astrology is said to be more introverted and introspective than masculine gender. The third astrological house is linked to Gemini and Mercury. It’s called the house of communication but it also rules thought processes, intellect and transportation. Any planets located in it will also influence this area of life.

If the sign on the cusp or the planet within it is feminine, you may be inclined to keep your thoughts to yourself for the most part, or at least be introspective and take plenty of time to assess how you feel about situations. You may be adverse to talking too much and you prefer to steer well clear of disagreements. In addition to this, I’d like to point out that Libra, despite being a masculine air sign, and therefore extroverted, could encourage you to be quieter simply because Libra energy is so busy thinking about what’s best for everyone and how to keep relations friendly, calm and peaceful. Its ruling planet, Venus, will have the same effect if its located in this house.

Natal Moon and Ascendant

Unlike natal Mercury, your natal Moon can be found in any sign, as can your Ascendant (also known as the rising sign or first house). If either of these is in a feminine sign, which as I have mentioned before, is a water or earth sign, you may be more introverted.

In astrology, the Moon governs your emotional nature. It’s essentially your inner self. Our emotions and our needs make up a huge part of who we are so it’s no surprise that you might be somewhat quieter, more withdrawn, or less extroverted if your Moon sign is in one of the feminine signs.

The Ascendant is also important for helping us to understand how we view the world, and how others view us. Someone with a feminine sign on the cusp of the first house, or a feminine planet located within it, such as the Moon or Neptune, might view the world through a cautious, sensitive, and imaginative lens.

The aspects these placements form with other components of the birth chart will also influence your feelings and interactions with the outside world. I don’t currently have any articles available on natal aspects but there are plenty available to look up online once you have found out which ones are present in your chart. In addition, getting a reading done by a professional astrologer can help you to understand them in depth.
