Black Moon Lilith in 3rd House: Untamed Words

Lilith in the 3rd house suggests challenges with third house themes like communication, early learning, intellect, curiosity, neighbors and community, short journeys, and/or technology. But this isn’t the case for everyone; if you struggle in these areas, you can absolutely thrive in them all with enough time, patience, and determination!

About the Black Moon Lilith in Astrology

The most popular Lilith (there are three in astrology), is by far, the Black Moon Lilith, a mathematical point in the birth chart. There are two more; the Dark Moon Lilith, which is also a mathematical point, and an asteroid that was discovered in 70s.

The house the Black Moon Lilith (often just presented as BML in the birth chart), indicates the areas of life which may be the most challenging. That means they could be areas which evoke negative emotions like shame and betrayal.

It’s vital to bear in mind that oftentimes, the obstacles and challenges  we experience in life can make us more resilient, self-assured, and mature as we overcome them. Of course, overcoming them requires a lot of self-reflection and inner work but ultimately, we all stand to excel in the themes of the house that Lilith governs because we all have free-will.

Communication Skills

I would say that one of the greatest challenges those with Lilith in the 3rd house face is their ability to communicate effectively with others. When you speak, you may find it difficult to get your thoughts and feelings across. You may struggle to find the right words. Perhaps you have a speech impediment which also causes some frustration. Because you find it tough to communicate, you might prefer talk to those closest to you. In this case, the creation of new friendships and relationships may not happen too often.

When speaking, you might feel compelled to use theatrical hand gestures, especially when you’re excited or upset about something. You feel they help to get your points across.

You may have put your foot in your mouth, more than the average person. We all do this from time to time but you might notice that you have a knack for it and although it isn’t in any way intentional, it may still create awkward social situations!

Having too many thoughts at once is another issue associated with Lilith in the 3rd. Mercury is linked to the third house and governs thought processes. So, you could be prone to overthinking and become bogged down by the weight of your own thoughts and worries at times. This could make you appear a bit nervous and flustered.

Thankfully, any issues with communication were much more prevalent when they were growing up. If you had a speech impediment, for example, you most likely received help to overcome it.

Early Learning and Education

This placement implies challenges in the early years of learning. You may have been out of sync with your peers somehow; perhaps you were miles ahead, or a little behind. Some of those with this placement could have been made fun of in school for being too clever or “geeky”, or because they needed a little extra help.

Small talk in school was also probably not your strong suit. Perhaps you were too shy for it and had a tendency to overthink what to say and how you’d come across. Sometimes you could have laughed at inappropriate moments, rubbing people up the wrong way. Some people with this placement felt quite lonely during their school years if they felt like they were unable to communicate well.

Higher education could have been avoided in their adult years as a result of the negative experiences they had growing up. If they managed to move past them, however, they probably did exceptionally well academically owing to their tendency to think deeply and constantly question everything.

Intellectual Abilities and Inquisitiveness

You may have been, or still are, an over-thinker. In school, your homework, for example, could have been frequently been delivered late or too much or too little work was produced. You may also have been easily distracted by things other than the work at hand.

As a child, you wanted to learn as much as possible, although on your own terms and at your own pace. One way in which you achieved this was by exploring and enjoying numerous different interests and hobbies. It was, however, a bit challenging for you to settle on one or two interests alone to pursue them in-depth.

You were possibly too curious and you asked your teachers endless questions in school. Perhaps there was a collective sigh in the classroom every time your hand went up to ask, or answer, yet another a question their teacher posed. Eventually, you could have become conditioned to curb your wonderful inquisitiveness and enthusiasm for fear of negative reactions to it.

Sibling Relationships

Those with Lilith in the 3rd house may have experienced sibling relationships that were fraught with disagreements due to the poor communication between them. One or more parties may not have possessed the communication skills necessary to sustain a positive relationship. This placement also indicates a difference in intellectual ability which can lead to feelings of inadequacy, frustration, and lack of mutual understanding.

You may have just had very different communication styles and saw things very differently. Your ideas and beliefs were probably akin to chalk and cheese. The result was frequent conflict but it didn’t mean that any of you were difficult person necessarily. You still had your sibling’s best interests at heart, and they yours. Still, someone occasionally may have felt, or was made to feel, like the black sheep of the family. Yet, in truth, there was no right or wrong party.

A growing sense of distance could have been felt in childhood and as adults, this distance may have grown or they started becoming closer. The direction your relationship took with them depends on the synastry aspects in your birth charts, as well as everyone’s free-will choice.

Neighbors and Local Community

You might find your neighbours problematic in some way, or perhaps you feel that relations are strained. Perhaps they are difficult people or your personalities, viewpoints, and beliefs are just very, very different to your own. Because of this, you may often trigger one another. In some cases, they could e tricksters who play strange, unwanted pranks on you and others in the neighbourhood for their own amusement.

They may feel out of place in their neighbourhood. Getting to know their neighbours and building local networks may feel very challenging for them. You could feel ignored or gossiped about. However, the feeling of alienation is more imagined that real.

Disagreements with neighbors or community members over local issues may arise. Differing opinions on matters such as neighborhood policies or community events may lead to conflicts, although these are likely to be short-lived. Collaborative projects and parties in the community could feel like a nightmare for you owing to things like communication or coordination challenges as well as substantial differences in opinions.

Short Journeys and Transportation

Ideally, you’d would love to be able to visit interesting places nearby, for example, in their town, at short notice with as little fuss as possible. However, they often find themselves tied down and unable to satisfy their urge to travel and have fun. Perhaps they were raised to believe that short leisure trips are too indulgent, or maybe they have just too much to do and never find the time.

Issues with siblings may also be prominent while driving. For instance, more arguments may occur while they’re in the car together, with them and constantly pointing out road signs, other drivers, or criticising their driving skills!

Technology and Communication Devices

You may be a little bit over-reliant on technology. All of the air signs —Gemini, Libra, Aquarius are associated with technology and its use. In the lives of those with BML in the third house, ruled by the sign of Gemini, technology may feature heavily. For example, young people with this placement could spend too much time online gaming and in forums, relying on these avenues for social interaction.

You could also spend too much time on social media, scrolling through your feeds on the apps looking for something interesting or learning new things. This is all well and good, but too much internet time, especially when young, could negatively impact face-to-face social skills.

We’re already facing an epidemic of too much online living and the full effects of social media are now becoming apparent. You might want to monitor how much time you spend online, or just ensure that you spend plenty of time having meaningful in-person interactions with others IRL. Having real life company also helps us feel good including more supported.

Contrastingly, adopting new tech could be challenging for some of you. You might feel a lot more comfortable with the tech you’ve been using for years and not wish to update it, especially if it’s very different and you’ve got to learn how to use it. In some isolated cases, technological advancements may frighten these natives but this tends to apply more to elderly folk.

Changing the Story

Feeling intelligent and competent is very important to you. Despite the learning challenges this placement suggests, you’re actually very smart, perceptive, and intellectually curious. Even if you don’t currently feel like you’re living up to your true intellectual potential, you can change the story around that by removing any limiting beliefs created earlier in life and replacing them with positive ones. Self-acceptance, self-forgiveness, and self-love is key to this process.

Positive Affirmations

Positive affirmations are short, positive statements that you repeat to yourself on a regular basis. I like to write my own and repeat them each morning and/or evening in the mirror. They’re said to work better when they’re stated with genuine conviction! So, give them a go and see what happens.
