What is the Part of Fortune?

I think the Part of Fortune (also simply called Fortune) is such a joyous part of the birth chart. It’s one of my favorite bits of any chart. It indicates your best qualities, what makes you happy and brings you luck and material success. It’s a wonderful point to explore and I highly recommend reading all you can about it, especially because interpretations normally vary quite a bit!

The house it resides in suggests the areas of life in which we may find our greatest joy and success while the sign it’s in indicates the qualities and traits that can help us to find success. For example, those with Part of Fortune in the 7th house could find success through a business venture, especially when they working with a partner or someone else. If it’s in the sign of Aquarius, they could use original ideas and a friendly yet cool, detached demeanour to help them grow their business.

Part of Fortune in the 3rd indicates joy and prosperity originating from 3rd house themes. I explore these below.

This part of the birth chart is not a physical celestial body like the Sun or Moon. It’s a calculated point involving the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant. We grow into this point. Over time, the house and sign that it’s in work more fortuitously for us. When we’re younger, we might struggle a bit with the themes and traits that it governs but we all get there eventually.

Success Through Communication

Communication early on life might have been hindered somehow but these people greatly admire and respect good communication from a young age. They especially admired like well spoken individuals when they were growing up.

They tend to be quick thinkers but sometimes they can be a little impatient and idealistic. They are cerebral individuals, and their sharp minds are their greatest asset. Work in the field of communication strongly appeals to them. This could range from communicating with others regularly in one-on-one situations, or repairing software or hardware that facilitates communication. Because they enjoy learning all sort of new things and are knowledgable on different subjects, teaching may also suit them.

Journalism allows them to communicate their thoughts on various matters to large numbers of people at once. If they can’t work in journalism, they might find other ways of getting their ideas out there, for instance, through a blog or social media.

Even if they don’t work in the field of communication, articulating their thoughts and feelings effectively is still paramount for them and as adults they tend to be blessed with superb communication skills. Some of them enjoy keeping a journal which they pour their thoughts into at the end of each day.

Communicating with others online mentally stimulates them and makes them feel like they’re engaging with society. There are plenty of ways they do this, from being on social media to playing multi-player games online, to logging onto virtual reality platforms like Second Life.

Although this placement isn’t strongly associated with self employment, there may be other factors in the birth chart that are conducive to it. If they run a business of their own, it may feature communication between individuals or groups of people, or they may just enjoy that aspect of their work, for example, dealing with their customers or writing reports, letters or articles. A relative of mine has this placement. She’s a barrister and she thoroughly enjoys the mental gymnastics of the job!

Someone else I knew with this placement sold pet supplies online in the late 2000s. He loved chatting with his customers on the phone and getting to know them and his conversations would often take really interesting detours. For example, once, someone had called to ask a question about a cat bed, and they ended up discussing their Christmas plans with him! As a result of his friendliness and chattiness, he built an excellent rapport with lots of customers who kept coming back again and again!

Enterprises Run with Siblings or Close Relations

This placement suggests a very positive, cerebral, and fortuitous sibling relationship. They could even work together in some capacity. If they go into business together and communication is also their sibling’s strong suit, they may choose to run a business which puts them in direct contact with other people on a regular basis. For example, they may excel in public or human relations. Whatever type of business they may run, establishing positive relationships with their customers and clients will help them prosper.

If they don’t work together, their siblings may still be of great help to them in numerous ways. For instance, they might get them an interview for a job somehow, or they might give them excellent business advice, or loan them money, and so on. Or perhaps they just generally provide them with a sense of security and belonging. And how nice is it to know that we aren’t alone in the world? That we have someone to fall back on? I think that’s wonderful — and very lucky indeed.

Prosperity Through Neighbors and Local Community

Their neighbors may enrich their lives in some way. Perhaps they’re exceptionally intelligent and like teaching them new things that could lead them to prosperity, entertain them, or greatly enhance their knowledge. Or they could introduce them to a fascinating new hobby that brings them a great deal of joy.

If they’re business-minded, they might go into business with a neighbour. Or their neighbor could introduce them to some useful, important people. Or they may point them in the direction of a new and exciting project to invest in that could turn out to be lucrative.

Joy and fulfilment may also be found in their local community. The friend I mentioned who ran a pet supply business online also took care of stray cats in his area. He worked in a team of about six people which he had personally assembled over some years. His neighbors and other people in his local community were also incredibly supportive when he launched his business. They all started buying their pet supplies from him and would recommend him to others.

Others with this placement might also work in a team tending to other local matters. An old neighbor of mine with this placement used to take care of the elderly people in her area despite her being a senior lady herself. She would bring meals to them when they were sick, shopped for them, kept them company if they were lonely, and found good tradespeople for them. I think she genuinely enjoyed taking care of others. She was an absolute star in our neighborhood and people like that are rarely forgotten in a hurry.

Their neighbors may not be experienced business people who lead them to success but rather kind-hearted people who are keen to pitch in and help them out when necessary. For instance, if they lose their home, they might take them in until they find somewhere to live. And for many people today, having people around who are eager and willing to help out means true wealth.
