Part of Fortune in 8th House: Finding Gold in the Shadows
What is the Part of Fortune?
Unlike the planets, comets and asteroids, the Part of Fortune is not a heavenly body. It’s a hypothetical, calculated point in the birth chart. To identify its position within any given chart, you take the degrees of the Ascendant (first house) and add them to the degrees of the Moon. Then you subtract the degrees of the Sun. This reveals the sign and house it’s in.
This part of the chart is shown as a circle with a cross running through the middle. It’s sometimes referred to as Pars Fortunae (its Latin name) or simply Fortune. As a head’s up, I’ll mention that it’s often left out in chart readings. This is mainly because a lot of Western astrologers don’t pay too much attention to it as it’s an Arabic part (one of many Arabic parts!). Such parts aren’t normally included in the syllabus of Western astrology courses. There also isn’t much information about it in printed books — or even online! I think this is a shame because it’s such an interesting and telling part of anyone’s astrological profile.
Shared Resources
These people find themselves being frequently surrounded by supportive and helpful individuals. That may include family, friends, and colleagues. They may be a mix of people that they got to know from different points in their life. Whatever their association is with them, they are exceptionally helpful, especially during tough times, for example during periods of illness or loss of income.
They may also have a particularly kind and supportive spouse. Being a stay at home parent, if desired, could be possible if their partner makes enough money for them to stay at home and take care of their home and children full-time.
Financial Savviness
This house also governs other people’s finances. People with this placement may therefore work in the field of finance managing other people’s money and/or resources.
An old friend of mine who helped me set up my very first business had this placement. Although I closed it just a couple of years after it opened, he was one of only a handful of people who were happy for me when it was (briefly!) doing well. He was also happy to lend me some money to get started as he believed in fostering entrepreneurial spirit. We aren’t in touch anymore, but I’ll never forget his kindness, generosity and support.
Of course, not everyone with this placement will work in finance or banking. There are plenty of people who work in other fields managing other people’s resources like property or artwork. No matter what they do for a living, or if they are a stay at home partner, they’re talented at saving and budgeting.
Financial Planning and Management
As kids, they were probably interested in finding ways to make money. They were the sort of children who were fascinated by the stock market and envisaged themselves investing in shares and options as adults. They were probably really interested in side-hustles, too.
I grew up with someone who had this placement and he was obsessed with finance. Each month, he’d be in WHSmith (a British shop) buying all of the latest financial magazines — and he’d actually read them, too! They certainly weren’t just for show. We didn’t really have the internet and computers until we were in our late teens but if we’d had them earlier, or if he’d been more into computers, I’m sure he would have had at least one online side-hustle going!
As adults, these people are naturally equipped at handling other people’s money as well as their own. In part because of what they learned growing up, but also because they seem to intuitively know what sort of investments could do very well for them and others.
Inheritance
The 8th house, like the sign of Scorpio, is associated with death and inheritance. So, some of these people may become wealthier through inheritance. And it doesn’t have to come from a parent or relative, it can also come from completely unexpected sources. Someone who I used to work with received an inheritance from our old boss! It wasn’t a huge sum but it was enough to help her start a new business, and that new enterprise ended up doing well.
Conventional and Alternative Healing Practices
Whether they work as a conventional healer or an alternative healer such as a Reiki healer, these people are natural healers.
More and more people are finding employment in esoteric fields thanks to the huge increase in interest in them in recent times. I think this is such a blessing to those whose highest joy can be found working in such fields because even just fifteen years ago, this wasn’t so easy. Examples of esoteric careers include astrologer, holistic therapist, Reiki practitioner, numerologist, and crystal healer.
These individuals are also naturally effective at maintaining their own well-being.
Personal Transformation
They may feel as if they’re on an accelerated path of spiritual growth. And they’re not wrong. They’re always on the look out for how they can broaden their horizons, better themselves, and raise their vibration. They aren’t adverse to looking inward, examining their trigger points and then dealing with them. Understanding their hidden motives, desires, and fears and working through them can be a highly effective way of further increasing their self awareness and raising their vibration.
This form of self-healing could feel like a bit of a chore in the beginning but after practicing it for a while, they might notice a positive shift in their energy. They might generally feel lighter, happier, and less bothered by negative occurrences. So, they might grow to enjoy personal transformation a great deal. Of course, personal transformation can also be aided by seeing a therapist, energy healer, religious leader, life coach, or even a trusted friend or family member. Natives may also gravitate towards other forms of personal transformation like hypnosis and physical transformation by changing the way they look, for instance, by losing weight or improving various aspects of their well-being.
