Scorpio Sun Sign: The Transformative Mystic
There’s no doubt that Scorpio is the most intense and intriguing sign of them all. It is by far the most popular zodiac sign and most searched for online. Whenever I write an article about Scorpio, or the eighth house to which it’s linked, I know it will receive more traffic than any other article on any other sign.
Perhaps this is because of its strong association themes that have forever fascinated humans, like psychic ability, the paranormal, sex, death, and the after life. Additionally, its intensely passionate nature makes it utterly enchanting. Those who believe in astrology often tell me that they find this sign to be the sexiest of them all specifically because of this.
The Scorpion, The Eagle and the Phoenix
The vile serpent or the kindly healer? Which is it? Scorpio is an especially multi-faceted sign and because of this, it has the most mixed reputation of all the signs. This is down to it comprising three signs; the scorpion, the eagle and the phoenix.
The sign associated with the lowest traits of Scorpio is the scorpion. It is this version, my friends, that has earned Scorpio its unbecoming reputation because it’s associated with the most negative traits of the sign. It is this version that has been feared and loathed in equal measures since time immemorial. In historical documents, it was often described as quarrelsome, treacherous and sexually debauched.
The eagle resides somewhere in the middle although it’s considered more positively oriented than negative. And finally, the most spiritually awakened sign is the phoenix — a mythical bird that according to astrological lore, rose from its ashes after being re-born. At this time on Earth, this is the rarest type of Scorpio.
While the eagle and the phoenix have healing and compassionate aspects to them, this type of Scorpio is only interested in brandishing its stinger and bandying its weight about. Thankfully, though, most Scorpios these days are perfectly pleasant eagles. And I think it’s very likely that we’ll continue to see more Eagles emerge as our planet’s vibration continues to rise at an unprecedented rate. It’s on such a steep rise because we’re slowly but surely raising our individual frequencies as we become more spiritually aware. I thin this is pretty impressive considering the various conflicts and financial hardships our planet has faced in recent times. but as humanity continues to evolve in a positive direction, I’m confident more eagles and phoenixes will soon emerge.
Scorpio Basics
For those who want to go over the basics of this sign:
- Scorpio is the eighth sign in the zodiac system.
- It’s ruled by the planets Pluto and Mars. Some astrologers today think of the sign being ruled solely by Pluto. Personally, I think Mars, its old ruling planet, still bears plenty of consideration. Scorpio surely gets its fighting spirit from Mars.
- Its modality, also referred to as quality or quadruplicity, is fixed. It’s a water sign and like all water signs, its gender is feminine. This means that is it considered especially sensitive, intuitive, and cautious. The other two water signs, with which it shares many personality traits, are Cancer and Pisces. The archetype is the scorpion’s stinger (M).
- It spans October 23rd to November 22nd, although this varies slightly over time. I have two friends who share the same birthday — November 21st but because they were born in different years, one is a Scorpio and the other is a Sagittarius. For this reason, be sure to check your Sun sign for accuracy using an online birth chart calculator rather than relying on the standard date range!
Admirable Attributes
These people have a formidable sense of self. They know precisely who they are and they see no need to change for anyone or anything. They can only be authentically themselves, unless they decide to feign who some aspect of their personality for whatever reason.
They seem to be born with an excellent intellect and outstanding intuition. Despite society telling us over and over that psychic ability is a load of myth, these people learn to trust their gut instinct from a young age. Their advanced intuition is a big part of who they are and they learn to use their feelings about things and people to their benefit normally by their twenties.
They feel very, very deeply so they experience the world around them in a highly emotional manner. Their sensitive nature means that they are very easily affected by the things they observe and experience. This trait, coupled with the energy of Mars, the planet of action, makes for people who view the world in an intense way. Scorpio is known for its intensity, which can be seen as both positive and negative. It can be positive if you consider how its intensity allows these individuals to form strong, meaningful and lasting attachments to others. It can be negative if you consider how fixed their opinions may be, and how they may argue them ad infinitum.
They are very sympathetic and empathetic as long as you don’t rely too heavily on them. They admire and respect people who are capable of standing on their own two feet. While they understand that we all need a helping hand and a shoulder to cry on every now and again, asking too much of them could drive them away. Their sense of self preservation is very strong and people can drain them emotionally as they are so sensitive. Many times, they find they must withdraw to save themselves from becoming overwhelmed.
The Scorpios who have reached the spiritual level the Phoenix are especially compassionate and non-judgemental individuals. So much so, in fact, that they often make highly effective energy healers. My own energy healer, who practices Spiritual Response Therapy and The Emotion Code, is a wonderful human being and in my opinion, she epitomises the Phoenix as she’s exceptionally tolerant, patient, considerate and kind.
Their passionate nature means that their thirst for life is unquenchable. Determination to succeed in everything they set their minds on, nothing can stop them from living their lives to the absolute max. They thirst to do it all — travel, make lots of friends and acquaintances, partner up, work hard, be successful, and see and do all that excites them, whatever those things may be. They also want the same for their children, partner, friends, and others they love. They genuinely want to see people thriving and making the most out of their time here.
Areas for Personal Growth
Scorpios aren’t known for being easy going. In fact, I can’t recall a single occasion where any astrologer has referred to them as such. One of the main reasons for this, I think, is that to them, their feelings are facts and they passionately argue their points even when there isn’t a shred of evidence to back up what they’re saying. I had a friend at Uni who had a Scorpio Sun, Moon, and Ascendant and I felt as if I couldn’t express my personal opinions around her. She always had to be right, and I always had to be wrong.
Another challenging trait associated with this zodiac sign is its tendency to want to control or push others into doing what they want. I think this is fairly rare but I think this behavior stems from feeling they cannot control the events in their own lives. Feeling out of control is unacceptable to them, as it is to all of the fixed signs—the others are Taurus, Leo, and Aquarius.
Not having control over the smallest things in their lives can greatly upset them. Learning to let go can help but it may not come easily. The serenity prayer springs to mind here as something they could benefit from remembering and reciting. It goes: “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference”.
While these people tend to read between the lines exceptionally well, their lack of trust in others can make them very wary and a bit defensive at times. It isn’t that their intuition is off, it’s just that their self-protection sometimes goes into overdrive. They can feel as if the whole world is against them even if their life is moving along relatively well.
If they let their guard down a bit more, they might find that the world is a much more forgiving and accommodating place than they had previously imagined. They may do well to remember that our beliefs create our reality so creating positive beliefs about themselves, others, and the world at large could help them experience more positivity.
No matter what sign we were born under, jealousy is something that we all fall prey to from time to time simply because we are human. However, the jealousy this sign experiences is more intense and longer lasting. The jealously they experience may arise for all sorts of reasons because of how incredibly complex they are and how deeply they feel. Thankfully, many Scorpios are also very self aware and cognisant of the fact that they are exceedingly capable of achieving anything they want in life. If they don’t have something they desire, they’ll find a way to get it, or else they’ll find a way to compensate for it, and leave the jealousy behind them.
Some Scorpios have a morose air about them and most of the time, there’s no obvious reason for it. They could just be dealing with a lot of very deep emotions. Or they could be mulling over something upsetting that someone said or did. The longer they allow their negative feelings to fester, the more sullen they’re likely to become.
Making a habit of consciously letting things go that bother them can help them to stay energetically lighter. If they can’t do this by themselves, getting help from an energy healer, close friend, or religious figure may help. Though being so private they might prefer to deal with their issues by themselves. If so, there are many tools at their disposal. Energy healing by themselves may suit them as well as techniques like smudging.
Lastly, Scorpios are known for being overly secretive although they probably harbor no more secrets than anyone else. Despite this, many keep their cards so incredibly close to their chests, that even family, friends, and lovers can feel shut out. I think the cause of their intense secrecy is linked to their great emotional sensitivity.
They also worry that any secrets they divulge may be used against them at a later date. Betrayal is exceptionally painful for them although many of them learn this from a young age and proceed with caution as adults to avoid it happening again. There’s no easy fix for this inclination, and perhaps there shouldn’t be if their need for self protection is so great.
Physical Appearance
These people share a similar look to Aries individuals as both signs are ruled by Mars. Their eyes tend to be dark and expressive and their hair tends to be thick and coarse. Often, there’s a palpable energy about them — like intense, silent mystery and magnetism. In some cases, when they enter a room, the energy intensifies. Their stare is legendary. It’s penetrating and a bit unnerving, especially if they don’t like you!
As a Spouse
In love, these people are immensely loyal. They love deeply and they are fiercely protective of their partner. They strive to defend and help them in any way they can, even if that sometimes means compromising themselves. They won’t be happy to tolerate abuse, though. These natives possess a healthy amount of self-respect and being sensitive, they normally strive to create sensible boundaries.
Dating
When they start dating someone new, they tend to be very cautious. They aren’t naive. They don’t easily trust strangers. They are very well aware that some people are predators with poor intentions and that the true intentions of their date may not be made known for some time. But, once they trust the new person they’re seeing, a lot more of them is revealed over time at their own comfortable pace. That might seem a bit much to some but others will also appreciate how passionate, exciting and fun they are to be around!
As a Parent
As a parent, they are intensely supportive. They want their children to succeed in every way imaginable and live their lives to the fullest. They must guard against being too involved in their children’s lives, though. Some Scorpios are helicopter parents; their incessant involvement in their children’s lives can make them feel as if they have no say in how they live. It can also make them fearful of making mistakes, even though that’s just a natural and important part of growing up. Making mistakes and learning from them is how we mature.
The friction or distance an intense parenting style can create can be a source of great pain and frustration for both parent and child. Allowing their children, once older, to live their lives as they see fit will serve them well in the long run. A healthy dynamic is more likely to emerge between them when they do this, and the relationship is more likely to remain positive.
As a Fur Baby Mom or Dad
These people love and adore their pets almost as much as their human children. They are painfully aware of their vulnerability and strive to look after every one of their needs. They may feel as if they can feel their emotions and vice versa. Some might call their pet their “familiar”.
As a Friend
Scorpios are ride or die with whom they love including their friends. They’re incredibly supportive and in tune with their friends’ feelings. While they may sometimes be argumentative and quick to anger, they normally still have their backs.
Truly, there’s never a dull moment around them. They like suggesting lots of fun things to do together. They get especially excited when they make a new friend and they want to show them all the places they think are fun. Doing things by themselves is equally fun but the experience of doing things with others is also lots of fun.
Other Astrological Placements
As you’re probably already aware, the birth chart has a great deal of information contained within it. Yes, the Sun sign is a big chunk of it, but ultimately, it’s but a chunk.
Always remember, therefore, to examine the rest of the chart because lots of placements affect personality and life choices. The Ascendant (Rising sign) as well as the remaining personal planets (Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) are of particular importance.
The houses provide information on the various different areas of life from hobbies and talents to marriage and children. I also recommend that you also take a look at your Pars Fortuna because it can help steer you towards living your best life.
