What Are the Three Types of Scorpio?
Although the sign of Scorpio is known for being linked to the small but powerful and deadly scorpion, not many people know that this enigmatic sign actually comprises three remarkably different creatures. It’s the only sign in the zodiac system to be built this way but seeing as the signs are said to rank in terms of spiritual evolution, it’s easy to see why some Scorpios are feared, others adored, and others are just, well, fine…
The Scorpion
It’s the scorpion, my friends, that has been feared and loathed in equal measures since time immemorial. In Medieval documents, it was often spoken of as a vile serpent. One well known astrologer from the 1800s, Mark Ahburn, labelled Scorpios quarrelsome s*x addicts. While the eagle and the phoenix have healing and compassionate aspects to them, this type of Scorpio is said to primarily embody the negative traits associated with the sign like vindictiveness, jealousy, possessiveness, greed and manipulation.
The Eagle
The Eagle is the Scorpio who has been there and done that. It’s bought the t-shirt, too. People who have reached this spiritual level are more understanding and forgiving because they feel they have lived many lives themselves. Over time, they’ve gained perspective, learned to see things from others’ viewpoints, and appreciate the bigger picture that is life on this rock. They can imagine themselves in the shoes of others, so they tend not to be judgmental.
Additionally, much of their lives consist of helping others in some form or fashion. This could be in a professional capacity as a doctor, nurse, teacher or psychologist or in an informal capacity as a good friend or neighbor for instance.
The Phoenix
The Phoneix is a mythical bird. It symbolizes someone who has dramatically and gracefully risen from ashes of their past, reborn as a beautiful new creature. These people are at the highest spiritual level of them all under this sign. They’re exceptionally kind, compassionate and understanding people. It’s likely their Soul has incarnated many, many times on Earth and lifetime upon lifetime, they’ve gained a great deal of perspective and spiritual enlightenment. A lot of highly effective energy healers are Phoenixes. I know mine is.
Sun Sign and Mercury Sign Combinations
In addition to there being three different signs within this sign of Scorpio, like any other sign, it can be divided into three further different types according to the position of Mercury in the chart. And since Mercury travels so very close to the Sun, it can only ever be found in the same sign as the Sun, or in a sign either side. So, only three Sun-Mercury combinations are ever possible.
Planet Mercury heavily influences the way we think and communicate. Because of this, it can condition the way the Sun sign plays out. The house Mercury is in is also important. I’d definitely recommend reading up on that too as that may tell you more about the type of intellect someone has, how they express themselves and the area of life where their minds — and hearts — frequently visit.
Sun in Scorpio and Mercury in Libra
Scorpio is straight to the point. It doesn’t mince words. It doesn’t see the point in sugar coating. It’s strong, bold, resilient and no-nonsense. When natal Mercury is in Libra, however, this all gets a little diluted because of Libra’s association with gentle, diplomatic, gracious planet Venus. Unless there are contra-indicators in the chart, there’s a tendency to be especially considerate of the feelings of others, and a tendancy to think a lot before speaking. This is because Libra is constantly weighing things up in order to do right by everyone involved.
This Sun-Mercury combination is also intent on helping and/or healing others in some way. Scorpio wishes to aid and heal anyway but when their thoughts are passed through a Libran filter, this inclination becomes magnified. They’re keen observers and effortlessly see the wrong in situations and people. Sometimes, this can mean spotting things they personally perceive as wrong, even if they aren’t wrong by many other people’s standards. Small matters can irritate them, especially if others fail to see things in the same light.
Scorpio is known for being very hush hush but as Libra is a talkative air sign, these people are inclined to express themselves often, and rather dramatically. They might not talk too much about themselves, but they generally talk a great deal about everything besides. They’re articulate, expressive and possibly more sociable than Scorpios with Mercury in Scorpio.
Sun in Scorpio and Mercury in Scorpio
These people are intensely Scorpionic. There’s often an intense, mysterious and intriguing aura about them. Some of these people are altogether otherworldly. You may feel like there’s so much more to them; that they have so much depth, but it also feels entirely inaccessible as they’re so private.
They tend to be unduly wary of others and reveal very little about themselves to family, friends and colleagues. Sometimes, they open up to those they trust, but this tends to happen infrequently. When they do, it tends to be with people they’ve known for a long time and trust implicitly. While they can come across as tight lipped and secretive, they’re just really good at protecting themselves and staying in control.
Aside from those with Virgo Sun and/or Virgo Mercury, these people are the keenest observers in the zodiac. When they walk into a room, they automatically accurately analyze everyone along with the atmosphere. They make excellent judges of character and their powers of deduction are often proven right in the end.
Their communication is frank and direct. They think: why beat about the bush when you can just get down to brass tacks so everyone knows where they stand? Wasting time irritates them, especially is there’s a lot of fire in their chart.
Their sense of humor is often dark and jokes about taboo subjects are often made. Their wit is acerbic and they can be quite cynical and sarcastic.
Naturally intelligent, they do especially well in the field of business. Many people with this Sun-Mercury combination prefer to run their own business so they be feel in control of their surroundings and lives generally. They tend to do well in whatever career they choose because of their laser like focus and unwavering determination. Those who wish to become professional healers often become excellent doctors and surgeons. They are especially good at research and will often dig and probe until they find the answers they seek.
Sun in Scorpio and Mercury in Sagittarius
With Mercury in the sign of the archer, people might wonder if these natives are in fact really Scorpios. After all, shouldn’t they be reserved and brooding as opposed to expressive, enthusiastic and optimistic?
Socializing — with the right people, anyway — is a great deal of fun for these natives. Being bubbly but also insightful and soulful, they make fabulous company and they always seem to have something interesting –or humorous — to say. This tends to stem from picking up a lot of information on a lot of different subjects over time. Expanding their minds through learning makes them feel alive and sharing what they know fills them with joy and provides them with deep sense of purpose.
Both of these zodiac signs are, however, exceptionally direct. The soft approach isn’t something that comes naturally to them unless there’s a significant amount of empathetic water or tactful Libra in the chart. Later in life, if they wish, they can intentionally cultivate diplomacy. Meanwhile, however, their communication is chronically to the point. And why not, as they see it? Why waste time or energy sugar coating things?
The mysteries of life really interest these natives. Anything that hasn’t been thoroughly explored or hasn’t been properly explained, fascinates them. They can discuss the things that interest them the most for hours on end with virtually anyone. They are keen to learn a great deal about anything that piques their interest. These are the people who are perpetually reading or on courses.
