I’m a Virgo But I Feel More Like a Leo – Why?

I think it’s common for people to feel like a different zodiac sign. Personally, I can also relate this astrological phenomenon because despite being a Leo, I feel a lot more like a Virgo at times. I put this down to having the Mercury and Venus in Virgo as well as a lot of 6th house energy in my chart. But there are many more reasons why someone might feel like another sign…

Double Check Your Time of Birth

How sure are you about your time of birth? The simplest explanation for feeling more like a Leo if you’re a Virgo is that you are, in fact, a Leo! 

Plenty of birth times are documented incorrectly. I discovered that mine had been taken down a whole ten minutes late. Some are even more incorrect than that. Others aren’t taken down at all. My parents’ birth times weren’t ever noted. They were left to guess. One relative was born right on the cusp of Aries and Taurus. She’ll never know for sure which sign she falls under (although I think she’s a Taurus thanks to her big, soulful eyes and peaceful demeanour!).

Sidereal Astrology vs Western Astrology

In case you weren’t aware, there are different types of astrology. The two most well known are Western and Vedic yet they are very, very different. If you were to look up your birth chart using a Vedic astrology calculator, you might find you have a different chart altogether, including different Sun, Moon, and Rising signs. If you find that you have a Virgo Sun, Moon, or Rising sign under the jurisdiction of Vedic astrology, you might find that it makes more sense to you. Because astrology isn’t scientific and different things work for different people, there are no hard and fast rules on what is right and what is wrong. It’s a field of study that is wide open to interpretation. 

Leonine Energy in the Family Home

Perhaps you were raised by one or more Leos. Perhaps you had siblings or other close family members who were born under the sign. As children we’re very vulnerable so instinctively, we try to fit in with those around us, and those who are responsible for our care. If this zodiacal energy was present in the home you grew up in, you may have consciously or unconsciously picked up Leonine traits and habits to fit in better.

Mercury in Leo

This seems to be one of the most common, but enormously underrated explanation for a Virgo relating more to the sign of Leo. With natal Mercury in Leo, you’ll undoubtedly think and communicate in a Leonine manner because Mercury principally rules thought processes, intellect, and communication. It’s never ventures more than 28° from the Sun so its orbital path is normally very close to it. As the Sun is widely considered the most important part of one’s chart, a planet which is so close to it is bound to influence us.

Leo Rising

The first house is also known as the Ascendant. More commonly though, the sign it contains is referred to as the Rising sign. This part of your birth chart indicates how you view the world, how you see yourself, how you assert yourself, and what sort of first impression others are likely to have of you.

In order to find the correct sign on the cusp of your Ascendant, you absolutely need to have the exact time of birth because the rising sign changes every two hours! Make sure you get the right time because different signs mean very different things for an individual from an astrological perspective. If Leo is rising, this sign will significantly color your personality with Leonine energy!

Sun in First House 

The first house, as I mentioned earlier, is a vital part of the birth chart. While the rising sign might not be Leo, the Sun could be located in the first house. Since the Sun rules Leo, this would lend a Leonine quality to the first house, and therefore, quite a significant proportion of your personality.

Moon in Leo

The Moon is the second most important planet in astrology. It rules who you are on the inside. It governs your deepest desires, needs, and your feelings and lots more besides. Not everyone who has an interest in astrology will know this and it may come as a surprise to discover the sign and house that it is in. For many astrology enthusiasts, it’s a revelation. It tends to explain a lot about the way people feel. For instance, when I found out that my Moon sign was Aquarius, it made perfect sense! 

So, what if yours is in Leo? Your inner world will be very Leonine. If you don’t know what your Moon sign in, there are plenty of birth chart calculators available online. You may just find that it’s in Leo.

Personal Planets in the Sign of Leo or the 5th House

I haven’t yet mentioned Venus or Mars. These are the last remaining ‘personal planets’. Collectively, the personal planets consist of the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars and Venus. They’re considered more impactful on personality than the generational planets which are called that because they take longer to travel around the Sun. 

Venus is all about love; how we give and receive it, as well as how we prefer to present ourselves among other things. Since Leo is known to be a very loving sign, when it’s in the sign of Leo, it can make someone very open about how they express their feelings for their loved ones. They may also appear rather dramatic, effusive, generous, and outspoken.

Mars is known as the planet of action but it’s also governs instinct, energy, drive, ambition, courage, passion, desire, and willpower. Someone who has this placement will instinctively act in a Leonine manner. They may be especially courageous and pursue their goals and dreams with fervour, much in the same way a quintessential Leo would. Additionally, if one or more personal planets in the sign of Leo are heavily aspected, this will also mean more of the sign’s energy is present in the birth chart. 

Other Influences Within the Birth Chart

Every birth chart has a mix of zodiac signs in it. For instance, in my own chart, I have a different Sun, Moon, Rising, Mercury and Mars signs. Not to mention the signs of the generational planets! Most of us find that upon looking up our charts, we’re a mix of lots of different signs hence why we can feel a bit more like this sign or that sign.
