Scorpio in 5th House: Intense Love, Bold Self Expression

Creativity

These natives need to be emotionally invested in whatever creative pursuit they decide to follow. They cannot be persuaded by some external force, such as an overbearing teacher or parent, to become involved in something that doesn’t set their heart on fire. Wasting their precious time on something they aren’t truly passionate about just won’t do for them.

From their perspective, their creative pursuits should be as interesting and rewarding as their day job, if not more so. If they can make some money, or gain recognition for their creative work, all the better although generally, they create things for personal satisfaction. As long as they have a steady income, they don’t see why they should deny themselves the pleasure of making hilarious YouTube skits, baking sweet treats, or creating doll house furniture in their spare time!

Pinning these people down to a specific creative pursuit is a challenge because they’re multi-faceted and complex, but Scorpio energy is known for being drawn to the paranormal and the mystical. The influence of this sign in the 5th means that they’re normally eager to explore the weird and wonderful including things like tarot, aura reading, energy healing, and past life regression.

Even at a young age, their bedroom may have showcased a fine collection of tarot card decks, crystals, and esoteric books covering subjects like near death experiences, astrology and numerology. But only their closest friends know about their interests because they normally keep them well hidden. In fact, they may be generally secretive about their hobbies and interests, even if they’re perfectly run of the mill. It all depends on what lies elsewhere in their chart.

Although less common, there may be a fascination with the paranormal including life after death due to Scorpio’s association with death, as influenced by its co-ruling planet Pluto, the Lord of the underworld. So, they might find allure in activities like taxidermy, as well as in the design of headstones and mausoleums. This interest is more common in those with other strong Scorpio placements.

I have Pluto in this house. In my younger years, I was a goth and I and enjoyed talking a great deal with my friends about paranormal experiences — my own and those of others. I would also enjoy visiting cemeteries. I found the otherworldliness and stillness of them utterly enchanting.

I’ve personally noticed many of these people being interested in science fiction, too, especially if they have strong Aquarius placements because of the sign’s association with the future. A school friend whose natal moon was in Aquarius collected books by famous sci-fi authors like Philip K. Dick, H.G. Wells and Issac Asimov. He was also obsessed with Star Trek, even going as far as becoming fluent in the Klingon language!

Self-Expression

Plenty has been said about the intense emotional nature of Scorpio in virtually every astrology book ever published. When Scorpio falls on the cusp of the 5th, there is a highly emotional, passionate, and determined self-expression. Their creativity is intense and they may express their emotions often through their creative work. I’ve found this to be true for those with both Cancer and Leo Rising as both are incredibly creative signs.

I went to art school with someone who had this placement along with Cancer Rising and a Scorpio Moon. He was a remarkable action painter. He channeled an immense amount of physical energy into his work by literally throwing paint onto these huge canvasses which I always interpreted as him forcefully smashing his emotions onto canvas. He created the most elaborate, colourful, expressive work and you could feel this powerful energy emanating from his pieces. He went on to do really well as a professional artist.

These people can also be very emotionally expressive. It can be great fun to share a friendship with them. Scorpio is a mysterious and complex sign and when it’s in the 5th, there is undoubtedly be plenty of passionate discussion with hilarious and naughty jokes, generous gifts, fun nights out together, and so on.

Romance and Relationships

When picking a partner, they rely heavily on their intuition to figure out who is right for them. Their friends and family may comment on how they always seem to choose appropriate partners. This discerning skill tends to refine further in later life, however. When growing up and discovering themselves, they may stumble across some perfectly wrong partners — as many of us do!

They tend to look for partners who are multifaceted with emotional depth. People who are unemotional or just a bit plain don’t especially inspire or arouse them. Those who are interesting or unique in some way, think deeply about things, and are kind and understanding appeal to them a great deal more.

Once in a stable, longterm relationship, they’re typically loving and devoted. They’re also in tune with their partner’s emotions. If they feel down about something, for example, they’ll quickly sense it without their partner having to actually tell them. Many will then act accordingly by showing empathy and support.

Some may engage in mind games and flirting could be something of a full-time hobby here. In relationships, some of these people may find it difficult to let go of any wrongdoing by their partner. They may also be a little controlling or jealous at times. Such traits rarely surface in most people, however. They tend to become apparent when they don’t trust their partner.

Children and Parenthood

Bonding occurs easily with their children and they feel very strongly about them. So, perhaps while they may not always like them, they will always deeply love them, fiercely protect them and fight for them if and when necessary. They’re intensely protective towards their children and like to keep an eye on them at all times, especially when they’re very young.

They want their children to get the most out of life and can’t stand to see them being stuck at home or not thriving in their studies. They encourage them to become involved in extra-curricular activities or travel, for example, to broaden their horizons and enjoy interesting, varied experiences.

If they are a parent who expects a great deal from their children they could find themselves rewarding the brighter, more obedient, or more beautiful child over their other child or children without realizing it. In addition, in some extreme cases, they might find it hard to let go of their control and allow them to pursue their own goals and dreams, whatever they may be.

Their children may be remarkably observant and/or analytical. As adults, they could be drawn towards professions centred around unravelling mysteries. So, they may work in fields like journalism, medicine, or science.

Recreation and Entertainment

As with their creative pursuits, their leisure time should be as rewarding and fun as their day job, if not more so. Even if their day job is taking care of their children and home, they’ll still have plenty of mental energy left for making the most out of their spare time.

Intense experiences of all kinds are perfect for these people as they make them feel truly alive and present. Examples of such experiences could include visiting awe-inspiring places all over the planet like the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls and participating in a high energy sports like diving, sprinting, car or horse racing. Even if they are only watching these events, that could be enough to satisfy them.

More sedate activities also appeal to them. It just depends on how they are feeling at the time. Fishing, swimming, and sailing in particular feel good to them. Intellectually challenging activities that require hours of focused concentration help them to keep their minds engaged and sharp. An activity that involves getting to the bottom of something, like research, will really pique their interest. Remember the painter friend I mentioned earlier? He was also interested in botanical research and could have easily become a botanist had he not become an artist.

Frequent romantic getaways are also fun. They love to stay in atmospheric and secluded places where there are only a few other people. If the places have some sexual edge to them, such as plenty of naughty shops or performances, all the better! They could especially enjoy staying somewhere delightfully dark and mysterious during Halloween. Enchanting wizard or Harry Potter themed accommodation may also appeal to them.

As I mentioned earlier, they like to make the most out of their spare time but they also like some of their recreational experiences to be transformative in some way. This could involve participating in personal or spiritual development classes, or engaging in activities that push them out of their comfort zones.

Venturing Into the Unknown

If their gut feeling about something isn’t good, despite all the evidence pointing to the contrary, they won’t go ahead, particularly those with Cancer Rising. Yet, while they’re cautious and use their intuition as a guide, they still go for the things that capture their interest. They don’t often shy away from adventures — which occasionally include taking risks.

From their viewpoint, nothing ventured, nothing gained. These people are some of the least likely to shy away from entering into an exciting adventure, enterprise, or other venture of some kind which stands to bring them some sort of enjoyment. Those who have Leo Rising are typically bolder and more ready to explore the unknown. This is because the fire element is highly action-oriented while the other elements, especially water and earth, are known to be more cautious.

If they have a Scorpio Sun-sign, Moon-sign, or Mercury-sign, it’s even more likely that they will strive to live their lives to the fullest. And that inevitably includes venturing into the unknown. Marriage, for example, has its share of beautiful success stories, while others result in turmoil or wreckage. The outcome of any venture remains uncertain — until you take the plunge!
