Virgo in 5th House: Grounded, Practical Play

Creativity

Creating something is wonderful, as long as it fulfils a need or function once it’s complete. It also needs to be made according to a plan. You see, these people cannot create simply to create because that would be a waste of time and resources. For example, if they want to learn how to play the piano, they’ll plan how long will it take them to learn, how much it would cost, when and where they would play, and to whom.

Practical arts like sewing and pottery especially appeal to them because they tend to result in something that can be used. Cooking healthy meals for themselves and others, especially their children, also feels productive and purposeful to them. Home DIY projects may are great too because the results are often extremely fruitful and they save money (which is another Virgoan favorite!).

Whatever their creative project, their attention to detail is often very high as is their patience to see it through to completion. I’ve found this is especially true of home renovation projects where the finished result often rivals, if not surpasses, the craftsmanship of pro builders!

They may especially enjoy working with natural materials like wood or clay or on a project which use their analytical skills like accountancy, analyzing data and metrics, and software creation.

Self-Expression

If there are other significant Virgo placements on the birth chart they could be a bit neurotic and worrisome. If so, self-expression may be challenging at times. However, many times, Gemini is in the first house and Gemini is an incredibly expressive and sociable sign. Those with Taurus rising may be more reserved and take longer to warm up to new people and situations.

Although, whatever the rising sign is, these natives are clear and direct communicators. They need to be understood well without any room for doubt. They strongly dislike misunderstandings. Because Virgo is a mutable sign, they enjoy listening to others more and giving more to others, than the other way around. This is especially true for those with a lot of water—Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, in their birth chart.

Romance and Relationships

Dating is something they take quite seriously. There’s something “old world” about the way they like to be treated and in an ideal world, they’d love to be courted as they did in previous areas such as in Georgian or Victorian England in the movies. They share this preference with those who have Capricorn on the 5th house cusp.

“Fussy” springs to mind when it comes their selection process. The bar for a partner is set high and for some of these people, it can be all or nothing. Personally, I think this is smart; setting the bar high separates the wheat from the chaff so to speak. They’re also much more likely to find someone just right for them rather than settling for someone who isn’t quite right and regretting it later in life.

The things they mainly want in a partner are integrity and decency. They’re attracted to intelligent, kind, caring, grounded and helpful people. I have Virgo in the 5th and I was in a relationship with a man for almost a decade who had incredible integrity. He cared a lot about others. In fact, he’d sometimes put himself out for others, including strangers!

Their partner also needs to have a very clean and fresh smelling body — with extra attention paid to their mouth, hands and fingernails. But their need for cleanliness doesn’t end there. Their work should be literally clean (an accountant would be preferred over a butcher, for instance) and they should also behave well—no seedy or devious behavior or hanging out with unpleasant people.

On the downside, they can be quite critical of their partner and highlight their short-comings. We all have our foibles and part of the lesson here in relationships, especially if they find themselves single quite often, could be to be more understanding and accept that absolutely no one is perfect. As long as a partner ticks most of their boxes, they should probably make a conscious effort to take them as they are.

Because Virgo is an earth sign, it naturally prioritises earthly matters, including money and physical security in a partner. Taking this into account, as much as they admire hard work in a partner, it needs to amount to something significant, like a good income. They certainly don’t need a millionaire partner. They just need someone who is down-to-earth and aware that a good income translates to a stable and comfortable home life!

Last but not least, their romantic relationship can’t progress aimlessly. They’ll never be content to date into oblivion without some kind of plan in place. I’ve found this to be more relevant with women rather than men because of the need to get on with having children, if that’s what they want. So, if they really like someone and see them as marriage material, they’ll try to create a plan for their lives together which is likely to mean marriage and children by a certain point in time.

Children and Parenthood

If they have children, they enjoy taking care of them and being of service to them. They especially the practical aspects of caring for them such as giving them a good education, placing them in nice surroundings such as a nice home with a nice bedroom. They feel particularly compelled to feed them exceptionally well and may also encourage them to lead a very healthy lifestyle.

As practical and attentive as they may be, these individuals tend to have high standards for their children. They may also be a bit critical of them and occasionally, unconsciously point out the things they don’t like about them. The term helicopter parent springs to my mind here if they’re constantly analysing them to determine how well they’re getting on in life.

There’s a tendency to worry too much about every aspect of their lives, from their physical health, to their academic progress, to the quality of their friendships and so on. They may be a bit overbearing, constantly wondering how they can help their children instead of giving them more space, which may serve them better.

Their children could posses some strong strong Virgoan traits or they could have Virgo Sun signs.

Recreation and Entertainment

Unless there’s a significant amount of Leo, Gemini, Libra or Sagittarius in the birth chart, letting go and having fun might be tricky for them. If they have significant Capricorn placements in the birth chart, or Saturn, the ruling planet of Capricorn, in this house, this could be even trickier. Of course, anyone can let go, relax and have fun if they so choose, it just might not come as naturally to them as it would to others.

When they take time off to chill out, they enjoy intellectual discussions, being in nature alone and with others, playing games, and redecorating. I have this placement and I love to go hiking in the spring with family in beautiful natural locations in England. At a push, they could also enjoy camping but they might worry about getting lost or being accosted by strangers or wild animals!

Virgo is the sign of service so caring for others in some capacity makes them feel fulfilled and useful. This could manifest as spending a whole day with their children in the park, for example, or seeing friends and doing something for them that will make them feel good. They especially enjoy taking care of animals so they could choose to spend a lot of time caring, and playing with, their pet, too.

They especially enjoy the arts and love doing things like attending classical concerts and visiting museums and art galleries. At home, they like to play classical music and watch old black and white movies. Given Virgo’s ruling planet is cerebral Mercury, entertainment that also teaches them something or is particularly mentally challenging, like documentaries online courses also appeals to them.

Venturing Into the Unknown

These people are generally very cautious when it comes to taking risks, especially big ones. They steer clear of big risks. They prefer to go with things that are certain or highly likely to fall in their favor.

If and when they do take risks, especially large ones, they adopt a carefully approach. They’ll need plenty of information and a clearly defied course of action before they dive in. This calculated, methodical approach ensures that their ventures are well thought out in advance and are therefore less likely to go belly up.

That being said, if there’s a significant amount of fire on the birth chart—Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, then they’ll be more likely to do things on the fly and take risks. They may be well aware that they should exercise caution and have a plan when taking a risk but sometime dive in without one anyway.
