Black Moon Lilith in 1st House: The Unmasked Self

The 1st house is associated with self-perception, self-expression, leadership, assertiveness and innovation. With the Black Moon Lilith in the 1st house, you may encounter challenges in some of these areas.

Perception of Self and Public Image

They may struggle to accept their physical appearance or personality and be very hard on themselves. They could greatly scrutinise they way they look or change their appearance often by frequently buying new clothes, switching styles, or undertaking cosmetic procedures.

Much time maybe spent scrutinising their weight, height and features. I’ve got a friend with this placement with fabulous wavy thick dark brown hair (nothing like my wild nest) and yet she constantly criticises it. Some people with this placement go to great lengths to achieve physical perfection through plastic surgery or less invasive cosmetic treatments.

Imagined health concerns, such as imagining a terrible illness brewing, may also happen. They may worry a lot about something in their body malfunctioning and visualise it instead of being confident that they’re healthy and resilient.

If they have a poor image of themselves, it’s likely they’ll also have a poor public image. They may feel as if no one likes them and have awkward social interactions. Issues with making and sustaining friendships, relationships, and other social connections may also be experienced.

Self-Expression

Expressing themselves confidently could be very difficult for them. Arguments about how they look or feel about themselves may negatively affect their connections with others, especially those who really care about them.

Their appearance could be very unique or quirky, for example, having lots of freckles with very red hair. The way they dress could be very different and they may have dressed for shock value in their younger years.

They may be too preoccupied with worry about what others think of them and allow others to dictate what they wear and how they act. In other cases, they may be over assertive and come off as heated without much provocation.

Personal growth could be something that interests them and they feel they perhaps should look into it at some stage but for various personal reasons, they resist it.

Independence

Issues surrounding their independence may arise. I have found that this is especially true in their teenage years. These are the sort of people who just cannot wait to get away from the control of their parents, teachers, and other authority figures. However, they may struggle to make it happen, especially in recent times with high rents and mortgages being so inaccessible.

In some cases, they prioritize others over themselves, even neglecting their own needs and desires in the process. Later in life, they may regret this tendency if they fail to achieve their goals. They may grow to resent the people who they think stopped them from living up to their potential which is a poor use of their time and energy.

Leadership and Initiative

There’s a burning desire to lead here but for whatever reason, they never quite seem to step into a fulfilling leadership role. Perhaps they feel doing so would make them look narcissistic or desperate. Or maybe they feel they just don’t have what it truly takes to succeed in leadership and even if they got their dream role, they would fail. Others may also shame them for wanting to lead rather than follow.

They may have a strong, irrational fear of ending up in a menial role, not making enough money and losing their power, respect and autonomy. The way they see it, being told what do is demeaning and they might feel ashamed that they aren’t in a more powerful role.

They can work extremely hard and with great focus, especially when starting a new project or job but the initial interest can wane quickly. Only if they manage to find a project or career that suits them perfectly, they’ll consistently work hard and stay focused.

Sexuality and Intimacy

Similarly to those with BML in the 8th house, which is also associated with planet Mars, the ruler of both Aries and Scorpio, these people often experience shame around their sexuality.

They have a particularly strong sexual aura and seem to naturally ooze sexual appeal. Others, no matter their astrological placements, often find their aura alluring and sensual.

While many may possess deep sexual desires, they may find it exceedingly challenging to express their sexuality. Perhaps as they were growing up they were shamed for having a strong sex drive or for being attracted to the same sex.

In some cases, they also may bore quickly with their sexual partner and need to move onto someone new and exciting. For some of these natives, the chase often provides more pleasure than the actual catch, unless the catch is exactly to their liking.

Changing The Story

Self-acceptance is key to moving away from negative behavior. When we fully embrace our flaws (we all have a handful at least!) we’re more able to deal with them in a constructive way.

Letting go of the past also helps. Dwelling on it for too long often isn’t hugely constructive and wastes time in the present which could be used to make positive changes.

More About Black Moon Lilith

There are actually three Liliths in the birth chart. Two are hypothetical points rather than physical celestial bodies and one is an asteroid that was discovered in the 1970s. The most popular Lilith is the Black Moon Lilith (abbreviated to BML) and this is usually the one people are referring to when that talk about their Lilith. It’s worth noting that at the time of publishing, as far as I’m aware, you won’t find much written about any of them in printed astrology books, especially those written over a decade ago. Some astrologers ignore the BML completely when giving a birth chart reading.
