Capricorn Sun Sign: The Ambitious Achiever

Ambitious and determined Capricorn, represented by the steely goat, or more specifically, the sea goat, makes its way through life by meeting one goal after another. It is associated with traits like patience and persistence. It is one of the most grounded, realistic and sensible signs in the zodiac which is, in part, thanks to it being an earth sign. What many aren’t aware of, though, is that this sign also has a remarkably emotional aspect to it. It just does a fantastic job of hiding it from others.

The Fundamentals

Before we continue, I’ll list the basics about this sign for those who aren’t aware of them:

• Capricorn is a cardinal, feminine, earth sign. 
• The date range for it is December 22nd to January 20th, although this can vary a bit depending on the year. 
• It’s the 10th sign of the zodiac so it’s associated with the 10th astrological house of career and public image. 
• The ruling planet is Saturn, which is associated with the father, discipline, restriction, and longterm reward.

As I said earlier, the symbol for this sign is actually the sea goat. This is a mythical creature half goat, half fish creature. The fish part is sometimes shown as being under water. This part of the symbol is thought to represent the highly sensitive side of the sign, which contrasts strongly with their grounded, resilient and emotionally cool side, as depicted by the resilient and stoic goat.

Admirable Attributes

One of the most distinctive things about this sign is its unbelievable tenacity. When these people set their minds on something, they go for it with all of their physical and mental strength in order to make it happen. This is, in part, because they strive to achieve as much as they can in life. They are the zodiac’s number one goal setters. Their lives comprise a series of goals, some of which others view as very ambitious, but if anyone can achieve such goals, it’s them.

Some people might view Capricorns as shallow because of how ambitious and determined they often are. They also love material comforts such as jewellery, cars, and many of them strive to live abundant lives in beautiful homes. However, their desire to become financially successful stems, much of the time, from taking their responsibilities very seriously. They want to do well so they can take good care of those around them especially their parents and children. They may still desire to have a lot of spare cash to spend on themselves, and that’s absolutely fine, but their primary focus is normally on being a top notch protector and provider. 

These people can be very persuasive with their words. That isn’t to say that they are bullies. Not at all. Rather, they seem to know just what to say to someone, in a graceful manner, to make them see something from their perspective. Capricorn, much like Virgo, can be quite particular about things so this is a very handy natural skill for them to have.

Being an earth sign, these natives tend to have virtually endless patience and can focus on a single task until it’s complete. They especially enjoy working with natural materials, such as wood, so woodwork tends to appeal to them. If not, it’s likely that they will enjoy having things made from natural materials, including wood, around their home. The solid, high-quality and long lasting nature of natural materials such as wood, stone, and for those who can afford it, marble, strongly appeals to them.

In most cases, these people are exceptionally private, reserved, and wary of others. Funnily enough, as robust as they come across, and indeed, they really are very resilient, they also have a surprisingly sensitive side to them. This is, I think, perfectly depicted by the fish part of the symbol for the sign. As I mentioned earlier, the symbol for Capricorn is in actual fact, the mythical sea goat, as opposed to the normal goat. 

So, as tenacious as they are, which is illustrated by the goat part, they can also be very sensitive, as indicated by the fish part often shown under water. And water in astrology is indicates great emotional depth and sensitivity and these people can indeed be very emotional and have very deep natures and deep hearts. It’s just that they protect themselves so well by acting cool most of the time, that few recognize this sign as being especially sensitive.

On the contrary, this sign has, over time, earned it’s reputation as being emotionally aloof. In reality, the inner world of this sign is a rich, deep, intense, and emotional one. Personally, I think that their well-known passion for the classical arts easily conveys their romantic and sensitive inner nature. The classical arts feed the Capricornian Soul; classical music, classical ballet, classical painting, and classical literature make their hearts sing choruses. Some of them also enjoy erotic works of art just as much, if not more than, Scorpio because this sign is exceedingly sexual and sensual.

Thanks to the earthy nature of the sign, these people tend to be pragmatic, practical, grounded, and realistic. Yes, they enjoy meeting lofty goals, but they tend to go about achieving them in a methodical manner. And they will be patient and persevere until they get there. Unless there are some contra indicators in their chart, they won’t easily give up or get bored and move onto something else.

Have you ever tried to shift a goat by any chance? I ask because if you have, you’ll know that they can be pretty stubborn! Like the goat that symbolises this sign, these people will not do anything they don’t want to unless they absolutely have to. Their minds can also be hard to change once they have been made up, too. They are frequently cynical and dislike believing anything they don’t have first hand experience with or a high level of knowledge about. While this is more of a positive trait than one which may require work, a little more flexibility may benefit them.

There is a certain heavy weight attributed to these people, as they can be extremely serious and find it challenging to loosen up, let go and take themselves, others, and life generally, less seriously. They tend to worry excessively about all sorts of things and can focus too heavily on the negative things in their life rather than the good things. They also have a tendency to think about all the things that could hypothetically go wrong instead of what could go right.

Physical Appearance

Thankfully, they don’t look anything like their archetype, the goat! This sign rules the teeth and bones and these people tend to have great bone structure as well as good teeth. Many have high cheek bones and are very photogenic. Plenty of Capricorns make beautiful fashion models. They also tend to have deep set eyes which are often dark and have a deeply emotional, soulful look about them. 

Their hair tends to be thick and for many, it will have some texture to it with strong waves or curls. They may initially come across as rather serious but they loosen up once they’re in good company. They always tend to look very stable when moving and standing, as if they have two more imaginary legs. Of course, the Rising sign plays an equally important role in determining physical appearance, so I would encourage you to examine that as well.

As a Spouse

Marriage to them is a serious business. Not only does it entail sharing assets and the creation of new life they will be responsible for, but its less obvious implications such as the care of their partner’s parents and how it might affect their personal and professional reputation. Bearing in mind that these people are traditionalists, they place a lot of value on loyalty, commitment, and security. 

Dating

Similarly to those born under the sign of Virgo, another earth sign, these people approach dating as one might approach a job interview. Dates are often seen as candidates for the most important position in their life as their one and only spouse. Some Capricorns only ever date “up”, meaning that they’ll only consider someone who is more successful than them, or who shows great potential to become successful. Education is also very important to them so they go for people who have received a high level of it and are smart, well spoken, and well mannered. They don’t necessarily need to come from an especially wealthy family but it really wouldn’t hurt their chances!

With their children, they can be quite authoritarian, especially when they’re very young. They can be cold at times, but this is really because they want their children to become self-reliant, competent adults who can take care of themselves later in life. 

Education is a primary focus and they normally do their very best to ensure they get plenty of it. While Geminean or Sagittarian parents focus on general knowledge, these parents focus on grades and excelling in just one or two subjects to help them become specialists in one particular field.

Of course, between all of the learning and disciplining, there is much fun to be had with a Capricornian parent. They can be delightfully sweet and funny with their children. They especially enjoy traditional activities with them such as baking sweet treats, and crafting. Special occasions such as birthdays and Christmas are made a fuss of and they often like to include their children in the planning and preparation.

They very much appreciate some degree of emotional support in their connections with others, perhaps a little bit more than those born under the other signs. Although they are a little introverted, they are lots of fun, as well as honest, sincere, and helpful friends.

As they are naturally goal oriented, setting goals with their friends whatever they may be, works really well for them. For instance, if they’ve always wanted to visit a far away country, a plan can be made to visit it together. Once that goal has been achieved, why not set another? Since they’re always interested in reaching new heights, and learning new things, doing productive things with their friends feels really fulfilling for them.
