Are Leos Empaths? The Kind Heart Beneath the Fire

Some signs, especially the water signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces), are considered more empathic than others. But, this isn’t so straight-forward as any human being may have the ability regardless of their Sun sign. In the article below I’ll include my personal experiences with the Leos I know.

Examining The Birth Chart

Since society heavily focuses on Sign sign astrology, I’d like to mention that the Sun sign is just one part of the birth chart. There are so many other things in the chart to consider. For instance, the Moon, which governs emotions alongside many other aspects of someone’s personality, is a vital component of the chart.

The Ascendant (aka Rising sign or first house) and the signs of the personal planets (Mercury, Venus and Mars) should also be studied when attempting to determine how empathic someone might be.

In addition, the dominant element should also be identified. Someone might be born a Leo, but their dominant element could be Virgo, which is a very different energy. The Sun sign alone simply isn’t enough to go on.

The Higher Expression of Leo

Leos are wonderfully warm, loving, passionate and emotional people. The higher traits of the sign also include courage, kindness and sweetness. In their highest form, these natives are strongly inclined to defend others who are being hurt — whether emotionally, physically or otherwise, regardless of whether they know them or not. This is because they can empathize with people from all walks of life.

Leos express these positive traits regardless of factors like gender, culture, race or age, especially when the Leo individual is emotionally mature. Of all the male and female Leos I know, five of the men and seven of the woman I know are likely to be empaths because they possess all of the above traits and more.

Of course, someone can be all of the above but not necessarily be an empath. An empath is someone who absorbs the emotions, and sometimes thoughts, of others and experiences them precisely as if they are their own.

The ruling planet of the sign, the Sun, is the centre of our solar system. It supports life on Earth with its light and warmth so we can all continue to live and throve on it. And that’s how Leonine energy can be viewed in higher expression — warm and supportive.

While some less enlightened Leos might bulldoze over other people’s feelings and opinions by being tactless, the more sensitive and empathic types make skilled listeners and dutiful carers.

They can sense what others are feeling and are often able to relate to their plight. They’re smart and frequently come up with clever solutions to all kinds of problems. They feel compelled to help people out of painful and challenging situations. 

They can’t stand to see someone they love, especially their child, being unfairly treated. If a man is also an empath, he will also feel the emotions of others as if they are his own which should help him to relate to them better and help them more effectively. They could be a ‘big softie’ and even cry when watching a sad movie, the news or adverts for charities — especially for child or animals charities. 

I am a Leo Empath

As I mentioned before, my Sun sign is Leo and I think of myself as an empath. I’ve always felt like a human sponge. I feel things very deeply and whether I like it or not, I absorb the emotions and thoughts of others and experience them exactly as if they are my own.

Sometimes, I also pick up energies in the street or energies from the collective consciousness. For example, when Covid hit, the atmosphere in my area in London was absolutely miserable and it was compounded by own sadness with the situation.

I find the ability tough to control and I often wish I didn’t have it because it frequently disrupts my life. But I also recognize and appreciate that it’s a gift and it has its positive aspects, too. It definitely allows me to deeply connect with fellow humans but also to animals, nature, and crystals.

Empathic Abilities Are Spiritually Evolved Traits

Typically, when we reach a higher stage of spiritual development, we become kinder, more tolerant, understanding, and empathic no matter what our Sign sign is. This is because all of the zodiac signs have positive traits associated with them, no matter what pop astrology says! None of them are all bad or especially un-empathetic— and yes, that most definitely includes Scorpios!

Not all Leos are empaths but many are. Leos are more likely to be empathic because, when positively oriented, they can be very sweet, caring, gentle, and soft-hearted. 

Sun sign alone is rarely indicative of empathic ability. While some signs may be generally more sensitive than others, the whole birth chart should be assessed, especially the Moon sign and Ascendant. It’s also important bear in mind that an empath may be born under any sign.
