Taurus Sun Sign: The Steadfast Provider

This charming, gentle and sweet-natured beast makes it way through life slowly and methodically. It revels in creature comforts, neat and predictable schedules, and lush and serene surroundings.

These people need to feel secure in every way, and they often spend much of their lives creating stable and secure environments for themselves and their loved ones. Most people who know a little about astrology will be aware of the basics of this sign.

Those who are new to the topic will benefit from being reminded of the fundamentals:

• Taurus is the second sign of the zodiac, which is associated with the second astrological house.
• It’s a fixed, feminine, earth sign ruled by Venus, the planet of love, beauty, harmony, money, and peace.
• Its astrological symbol is the bull. Taurus literally means bull in Greek (it’s pronounced “tav-ros”). Of course, when you think of a bull, you think of a very large and hostile animal, but these people are normally nothing of the sort. On the contrary, they tend to be gentle, pleasant, calm and gracious — unless you catch them on a really bad day and then their bullish side becomes apparent!

Admirable Attributes

Taureans are known for being exceptionally hard workers. While some signs are prone to having far out ideas and overly ambitious projects, these people are always realistic about what they can achieve. They like to plan how they will reach their goals to avoid wasting time, energy and resources. Once they are set on something, they will stick to it until it is finished. While Aries and Gemini tend lose interest in the things they aren’t completely enamoured with, these people just keep on going. They have seriously impressive sticking power, something that I, with my Gemini Ascendant, deeply admire!

One of the most impressive things about Taureans is that they have a wonderful, even temper. They tend to be pretty chilled out most of the time. Some of the most relaxed people around were born under this sign. You have to really, really push them in order to rile them up and get a strong reaction from them. And, even then, they may still not react because so many of them are fundamentally very content, peaceful people.

Many Taureans are emotionally mature well beyond their physical years, too. I had a horrible argument with a Taurean friend in a nightclub once when we were both in our twenties. We were both drunk but having a good time. As we were chatting, I said something really rude and thoughtless to him but his response was calm, measured and respectful. When I saw him again a few weeks later, much to my surprise, he was very sweet and harboured no hard feelings towards me at all.

These people are exceptionally careful with their finances. No one could accuse them of being spendthrifts. Although they love money, they are mindful about only spending what they can afford. If that means buying a luxury car or going on a high end fashion haul, so be it. But, if all they can afford is an afternoon shopping for shirts in a local thrift store plus a coffee at a local cafe afterward, then that’s what it will be.

On the odd occasion they overspend (which, let’s face it, we’ve all done at some point regardless of our astrological make-up), they would probably feel pretty bad about it, and work hastily work to cover what they owe because they hate being in debt.

Thanks to their love of all things natural, including the open air, trees, flowers and plants, many of them make avid gardeners. The Taurus friend I mentioned earlier has a penchant for herbs. Now in his late thirties, and the proud owner of a house with a spacious back yard, he grows all kinds of beautiful plants and flowers, as well as herbs, that often make their way into his delicious dishes.

Many of these people are blessed with especially lovely voices because this sign rules the neck and throat. Take Cher, for example. She is a Taurus and one of the most popular singers of all time. Joanna Lumley, another Taurus and national treasure in the UK, is not only renowned for her iconic TV roles but she also has a distinctly beautiful, rich voice which makes her an excellent narrator too.

Areas for Personal Growth

Of course, no zodiac sign is perfect. They all have their pros and cons and Taurus is no exception. This sign can have remarkably traditional views. While this isn’t necessarily a terribly negative thing –there are many perfectly lovely traditional views someone can hold—they can become stuck in outdated beliefs.

They can also become stuck in their comfort zone, which they absolutely cherish. Being steady and cautious can sometime translate to being too slow and hesitant. They aren’t the type of people who can easily and promptly adapt to new situations, surroundings and people. The thought of traveling to other countries may feel especially daunting to them.

Similarly to Scorpio, the opposite sign, they can be quiet possessive in their relationships. And generally speaking, people don’t appreciate feeling restricted. Most people like some free reign in their connections with others. So, in this lifetime, one of their challenges may be to learn to provide others with lots of space and to allow them to think and act exactly as they please.

Indulgence is something they may struggle with quite a lot. Of course, we all want to have a good time; that’s one of the things we surely came here to do, but too much of a good thing isn’t always a great idea. They may therefore want to watch out for over indulgence to avoid things like getting into debt, or putting on too much weight, both of which could affect their well-being.

Sometimes, these natives can come across as a bit flashy. The enjoyment of life’s physical pleasures is really important to them, so they like to surround themselves with aesthetically gorgeous things. They also tend to dress well and maintain their appearance. This tendency, I think, is often interpreted by others as being materialistic, but I think most Taureans just like to experience beauty in all forms. After all, this sign is ruled by planet Venus, the planet associated with harmony, love and beauty! So, being drawn to things that are easy on the eye shouldn’t come as a surprise.

Have you ever tried moving a bull? Probably not, but I’m sure you can imagine that, given the sheer weight of the beast, it would be no easy feat. Especially if he doesn’t want to budge! And that provides a good analogy for the stubbornness associated with this sign. If these people don’t want to do something, will absolutely resist. They know how to put their foot down — and stay there. They are exceptionally strong willed, and funnily enough, this can often be witnessed from a young age when relentlessly defying their parents!

Physical Appearance

This sign is well known for its beauty. A lot of extremely attractive people are born under this sign. And they may also have an especially beautiful neck; thick, short, or particularly long, narrow and graceful. Their hair tends to be thick and/or wavy or curly in texture. Their eyes are rounded and often quite emotional. And, many times they have slightly larger nostrils or a prominent nose. Whatever they look like, though, they tend to have a gentle demeanour and a graceful aura about them.

As a Partner

Marriage isn’t something they take lightly. As I mentioned earlier, security is of prime importance to them, and a solid marriage is an integral part of feeling secure in life for many. No connection is taken lightly, let alone the legal contract of marriage. Being quite traditional, they are very serious about their relationships. Old-fashioned values like respect, trust and loyalty are prerequisites.

They expect their partner to take their relationship as seriously as they do. They must reciprocate their love, affection and effort. They work hard in their marriage and they expect their partner to do the same. In private, they love physical closeness and can be extremely tactile with them. They like to touch their partner’s skin, the clothes they wear, and cuddle with them.

Dating

Relationships are very important to these people. But, as I mentioned earlier, they are quite traditional and conservative so today’s dating scene with its bars, nightclubs and apps, may not suit them. Instead, they might like to meet people the old fashioned way, such as through friends, at work or through some kind of club. I have a friend born under this sign who met her now husband through her local walking (rambling) club.

They are often drawn to people who are well-groomed, stylish, polite, and well-mannered. If they also hold some old-fashioned values, all the better!

When they start dating someone new, they generally like to exercise some caution. Unlike a fire or air sign, they might not jump straight in, and tell their date everything about themselves. They like to get to know new people slowly. They feel them out, and intuitively gauge what they should share, and what they should hold back. Personally, I think that in today’s world, that’s very wise. We all need to be a bit more wary about introducing strangers into our lives now.

Their style of dating is refreshingly old-fashioned but it certainly isn’t to everyone’s taste. Some people might view them as too reserved or staid.

As a Parent

As parents, a heavy emphasis is placed on having a traditional upbringing. They also want their children to be successful so they can live with ease and grace and have plenty of fun, indulgent experiences along the way.

As a Pet Parent

Their pets bring out their sweetest nature and they are extra patient with them, although perhaps a bit possessive! Gentle natured and slow moving, or otherwise manageable pets appeal to them the most.

As a Friend

Our Taurean friends help keep our feet firmly on the ground. As hard working and serious as they can be, they also have a surprising sweetness about them which helps soothe their friends during difficult times.

They are normally incredibly steadfast and loyal with their friends. Even if their friends are in the wrong, they are likely to stick by them regardless. They might have a conversation in private about what they think is right or wrong, but in public, they always have their back.

Enjoyment of life comes naturally to them. Like the opposite sign on the zodiac wheel, Scorpio, they want to live their lives to the absolute max by experiencing all that they can. And part of leading a rich, full life means having excellent friends to enjoy it with!
