Why Do I Feel Drawn to the Sun?
“Let the life-giving energy of the sun fill your life.” – Unknown
The Sun has been shining its warm light for years. Like, billions of years… It gives life to people, animals, and plants. It’s an amazing source of inspiration. It symbolizes different things and has spiritual connotations. Other civilizations, religions, and cultures have celebrated this beautiful, giant luminous orb throughout history. Its influence shines on many things including art, science, religion, and culture. Humans find solace and tranquility by way of the Sun. People look up to it and know they aren’t alone in the universe.
It’s also the star that is nearest to Earth. For the people who want to know (typically astronomy lovers), it’s ninety-three million miles away. That seems like a long way, but astronomically speaking, that’s close by!
The Sun and Your Well-Being
The other elements, air, fire, and water, aid humanity in survival. However, if there were no sun, life would be impossible. Many people soak up the rays because they feel it energizes them. Besides food, you can get some Vitamin D from the Sun. It helps strengthen teeth, muscles, and bones. When a person’s Vitamin D is decreased, they have more of a chance to develop conditions like rickets or osteoporosis. Low Vitamin D can also make you feel tired, achey and generally dreadful.
I’ve been low on vitamin D several times and it made me feel exhausted in every way conceivable. I became moody and my skin and scalp would itch. Some people also get a bit depressed during darker times of the year. The Sun raises serotonin levels. This aids in improving mood, avoiding insomnia, and preventing SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder).
The Sun even helps lower blood pressure and aids with immune function. The Sun also helps people produce melatonin. This is a chemical from the brain that helps with sleep. So, both serotonin and melatonin work together for a more restful night.
It not only helps physically, but it’s also a cosmic support system. When life is tough, some who believe in the power of the Sun meditate upon it for guidance and strength. Or just step out in it to get warm and relax.
Spiritual Meaning, Symbolism, Traditions and Cultures
Its Astrological Meaning
In astrology, the Sun symbolizes the ego; one’s core being. Especially when it comes to external self-expression. It’s associated with the soul or center of a person and impacts personality traits, self-image, and life’s pursuits. It also encourages people to self-reflect. The idea is that the Sun (in astrology) guides a person on their spiritual quest. The star sign Leo is the boss of the zodiac because it’s ruled by the Sun, the center of our solar system.
Our Link Between Earth and The Hereafter
As stated previously, the Sun gives life. It’s looked at as the bridge between the physical and spiritual realms. Many cultures would pray to the Sun because they thought it represented their God. In fact, numerous traditions and religions utilize the Sun to reflect a higher power. Think Jesus Christ, Buddha, Lugh, Apollo, Krishna and Ra. The power of the Sun is often used for replenishing the Self and spirit.
People believed in the Sun before they believed in anything (or anyone) else. There are a vast number of examples of Sun worship all over the globe as well as throughout history. It’s associated with Greek mythology, the Nabateans, the Incas, Mayans, Shintoism, Hinduism, Wiccan and other groups and religions. It shows up in different spiritual formations. Even most churches, megaliths, and temples are built and positioned towards the Sun. It’s suggested to visit these spiritual spots in the time of the summer solstice. This is because the Sun is most powerful during it, which means the structures are as well.
The Cycle of Life
The Sunrise and the Sunset are profoundly symbolic. They showcase that there is nothing eternal. Everything has a life cycle. The rising of the Sun represents the beginning. The Sunset illustrates the end. Nothing lasts forever in life. Positive or negative. It’s a type of rebirth. It teaches that you can leave the past behind and start anew.
The solstices and equinoxes are also hugely important throughout the year. Astronomically, it indicates the beginning of each season. The Spring equinox happens in the northern hemisphere in March. The summer solstice starts in June, the autumn equinox is in September, and the winter solstice is in December. Long ago, humans celebrated these important solar occurrences with rituals and festivals.
Early on, alchemists would collect morning dew during an equinox. The dew was utilized for their potions because they believed it held profound energy. They had a spiritual link to the Sun and felt it connected them to the powerful life force. Although the ancient bond to the Sun has diminished, there are still people who celebrate the solstices, including the Pagan community.
Summer was a bountiful time for the ancestors. The planet, with the help of the Sun, would bless people with sustenance from their crops. Because of the successful harvests, people would revere the Sun. They would pray for their crops to be continuously fruitful. Modern-day worship happens when people are looking for their blessings in their lives. This can be done with work, partnerships, and money. When asking for blessings from the Sun, one must be open and receptive.
Throughout history, this vast celestial wonder has bonded people together effortlessly. It’s shined its bright light on numerous cultures, religions, and traditions. It speaks of the divine, direction, and illuminates (literally and figuratively). The Sun is often depicted as a circle, representing a cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
My Closing Thoughts
“You are my sunshine. My only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray…”
The Sun is closely related to happiness, positivity and joy. That’s why the summer season is so popular with people. Personally, I’m an autumn kind of person but many humans love the summer. They like to hike, swim, tan, go to festivals and amusement parks, or just be outside to feel the Sun on their skin. Many people feel that it helps overcome depression and sorrow. Feeling sad or experiencing low energy? Seek out the warmth and brightness of the Sun to life your spirit!
Some even feel inspired to create or be artistic after spending time in the Sun. This blazing object has been an inspiration to many over a thousand years. There’s proof of this Sun love and appreciation in art, poems, paintings, songs, movies, sculptures, and structures.
People who feel a connection to the Sun are usually more confident and commanding. Like the Sun, the person will continue to shine bright despite any hardships. They will tackle challenges because the Sun gives them direction. These Sun Shiny people need to remember to encourage others while progressing on their spiritual quest. Remember, what you put out in the universe, comes back to you. Whether that’s positive or negative is up to the person in question.
The Sun shows people that nothing is ever finite or over. It gives hope. It motivates. It guides. New beginnings are possible with the Sun’s encouragement. The soul’s pathway can be trying, especially in a tough school like Earth! However, if people are open to the energy of the Sun, they will gain awareness about their spiritual journey.
