Aries Sun Sign: The Brave Go-Getter, Pioneer and Adventurer

Straight-forward and gung-ho, Aries is the true warrior of the zodiac system. These people always need to be first and win at virtually everything. They are physical, emotionally full-on, and intensely animated.

Whenever I think of this sign, I picture a Viking warrior, who could be either female or male, standing confidently at the top of a snow-covered mountain they’ve just finished climbing with unyielding determination.

The fundamentals of this gloriously dynamic sign are as follows:

• It is fire sign (the other two are Leo and Sagittarius). 
• It is a Cardinal sign (the others are Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn). 
• It is of masculine gender (the others are Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius). 
• Its date range is March 22nd – April 23rd (but this can change depending on the year).
• Its ruling planet is Mars, the red planet associated with action, passion, initiation, and war.
• Its astrological symbol is the Ram.

Admirable Attributes

When you are around one of these people, you probably notice that things happen. They seem adept at starting exciting new projects and often enjoy taking others with them for the ride. They are fun to be around and extremely adventurous. So much so that they enjoy traveling to all sort of new places and trying all sorts of new things all alone if no one else is willing to join them. Nothing can get in the way of them living their best lives.

Any competition to them translates to a welcome challenge, for they love nothing less than triumphing. They are extremely competitive. They love to compete with themselves to see how far they can push themselves to achieve, and they love to compete with others, often simply to win.

They also won’t take no for answer. If someone tells them they can’t do something, they will probably want do it more because they can often interpret being told “no”, or being advised against something, as a fun challenge. This competitive and dynamic attitude means that they are continually moving ahead in life by truing new things, and reaching new heights.

Aries is also known for its pioneering spirit. Ariens are willing to go where others won’t. Unlike those born under some of the other more self-conscious and cautious signs, these people are unafraid of what others think, so they don’t mind if they make mistakes, seem foolish or fail in their endeavours. The point, as they see it, is that they had the courage and determination to tread where others couldn’t or wouldn’t. Many Ariens therefore make excellent scientists, engineers, researchers, and business people.

Freedom loving, independent, and self-starting, these people strive to live by their own rules. That is why so many of them run their own businesses. And owing to the large amount of physical energy they have, they tend to be successful by putting in the work required. They can also have a very direct approach to business, and are often unafraid of competition.

As distracted and self-focused as they may sometimes appear, they can also be intensely caring, kind, and supportive of those they love and those who they deem vulnerable, like the elderly and the disabled. There is a particularly soft spot in their hearts for animals. They absolutely love and cherish them. They tend to go for energetic canine companions, with whom they get plenty of physical exercise. A lot of them seem to enjoy jogging or running with them alongside.

The fire element is associated with strong intuition. Perhaps not quite as much as the water element is, but it is still a very intuitive element. All of the elements are intuitive to some extent, as all humans are. Similarly to Scorpio, which is also ruled by Mars (in part), these people use their gut feeling to guide them through life. They can also intuit good people from not so good people. 

These people are so incredibly passionate and enthusiastic about life that it’s difficult suggest a list of specific interests they are likely to have. They can become take an interest in virtually anything, and many of them try do a variety of things, most of which will probably require plenty of physical and or mental energy. For instance, they could be a personal trainer during the day, practice cooking delicious new dishes in the evening, and play tennis on weekends. That’s another thing about Aries people —their schedules are always jam-packed with an eclectic mix of activities!

Areas for Personal and Spiritual Growth

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac system. The first sign, and the first astrological house, is all about the Self. And so, Ariens are often quite focused on themselves. While this tendency isn’t necessarily bad — we all need to focus on ourselves to make progress in the world, it can also mean that they are sometimes oblivious to the needs and wants of others. If someone is too self-focused, no matter what their sign is, this can impact their relationships with others and they might find they become a little lonely.

Lacking in their attention to detail and easily distracted, they can rush to just get things done and out of the way so they can get on with newer and more exciting things. Projects or situations that drag on, or don’t quickly provide results, are unbearably boring to them. And like Geminis, they do become bored easily and sometimes suffer from “shiny ball syndrome” meaning that they are constantly moving on the next thing that always seems more enticing and promising that the last.

Aries is known for its passionate nature, intensity, and its expressive and fiery nature. This means that many Ariens can become quickly heated and be overly direct in their communication. As fiery and passionate as they are, though, they cool off quickly. Unlike Scorpios, they don’t tend to hold grudges. They might become annoyed with something one moment, vent about it, or display some anger, and then forget about it shortly after. Obstacles and challenges, including disagreements with others thankfully never seem to stick. 

Physical Appearance

Their appearance is often similar to those born under the Sun or Rising sign of Scorpio, thanks to Mars, the ruling planet the signs share. Their hair tends to be thick with a wavy or curly texture and sometimes it’s also quite coarse. Their eyes tend to have a direct, intense look about them, no matter their color or shape.

Their body language is typically indicative of someone who is perfectly confident, assertive, and comfortable in their own skin. They may also lean forward quite a lot or their necks may be slightly bent forward. This is because they always want to be moving forward in life, making progress and conquering new things. In terms of physical energy, this is one of, if not the most, energetic sign. The others are often listed as the other two fire signs, Leo, Sagittarius, as well as air sign Gemini, and water sign, Scorpio.

As a Spouse

These people normally refrain from marrying someone unless they are absolutely over the moon, head over heels in love with them. They have to feel as if there is no one else on Earth who could compare to their partner. They have to be the best and tick as many of their boxes as possible. So in that sense, they can be quite cautious and take their time in finding the person who is just right for them, and vice versa. 

If they don’t find that person, then many Ariens are happy to remain single as they are terrifically independent and self-sufficient people. However, they can also be a bit impulsive and dive into marriage a hotly after meeting someone new although in such cases, it means they are smitten and so their union is likely to last. If it was an impulsive mistake, they may swiftly annul or divorce and not look back.

When truly in love with their spouse, they make for a fun and adventurous partner who gets bored sitting still for too long, or doing one thing at a time. They are expressive, passionate and tactile with their partner. They enjoy demonstrating their love and appreciation for them, as often as the can by giving them physical affection, such as hugs and kisses, as well as spending quality time with them doing fun things, and giving them interesting and thought gifts. Since they have a lot of physical energy, they aren’t normally against doing their share of household chores and child-rearing. 

Dating

Depending on who they are dating, the thrill of the chase may mean more to them than actually establishing a relationship. Being direct, and uneasy with the idea of waiting around, they tend to pursue the object of their affection with intensity, no matter their gender.  

Their dates need to hold their attention by being interesting and charming with a good sense of humour. They are especially impressed by people who are free-spirited, confident, and ambitious. If they enjoy traveling and can confidently hold discussions on a wide variety of topics, all the better!

As a Parent

The delightful and light-hearted energy of children really appeals to them as they have a playful, lighthearted, frank, and open nature themselves. They love playing games like tag and hide and seek with their kids, as well as baking or crafting together. To them, it’s some of the best fun they could ever experience in life.

Because they naturally have huge reserves of energy, they tend to make energetic parents who want to see their children thrive and live their lives to the fullest extent. They enjoy filling their minds with knowledge by teaching them lots of different things. They grant them plenty of freedom, and allow them to make their own mistakes so they can learn from them. Rich or not, they provide their children with everything they need to have a supported and throughly enjoyable upbringing. 

As a Fur Baby Mom or Dad

As long as their pets don’t take up too much of their time and don’t restrict their freedom too much, they will thoroughly enjoy their relationship with them. They tend to love them to bits. Their pet of choice is one which is quick on its feet, and or an excellent hunter.

As a Friend

Anyone who has a close friendship with an Aries individual will probably tell you how direct, energetic, and bold they are. They’ll also tell you just how much they admire and enjoy those qualities in them, because they are admirable. These people are no-nonsense with friends, just as they are generally. They get things done, and they don’t tend to make for lazy or forgetful friends. Special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries will always be remembered, and they can be extremely sentimental and generous with those close to them.

Dull moments are rare with them, too. Their idea of fun isn’t late night pizza marathons in front of the laptop binge watching most acclaimed series. They are the type of people who encourage their friends to leave their comfort zones behind and go on some sort of adventure with them. And their adventures are likely to be quite physical because they enjoy being on the move.

I have a close Arien friend, who despite being in her late sixties, is still remarkably physical, and in great shape. We normally visit English Heritage sites across the UK together, which is so much fun, but also often involves walking several miles. While that never seems to faze her, I find it challenging — and I’m in my late thirties!

Other Astrological Placements

Planet Mercury, being one of the “big five”, and ruling thought processes, can heavily influence the birth chart. Those with an Aries Sun-sign but a Pisces or Taurus Mercury sign may think and feel differently than if they had Mercury in Aries.

There are also numerous other placements, aspects, and points in the birth chart which can influence personality, such as Moon-sign, and the first house (aka the Rising sign or Ascendant). That’s why some Ariens feel like another sign, or perhaps just not especially Arien.
